Who we are

Astra Fund is a new philanthropic venture fund with a mission to support the creation of better thinking games and bringing them to broad audiences. We aim to achieve this through grants and developer-friendly investments.

We are part of Carina Initiatives, a philanthropic fund working to send more kids from more communities to the frontiers of science and technology.

The role

Astra Fund is looking for a Producer to support external production with thinking (puzzle & strategy) game developers and streamline our internal operations.  This role will also support the broader organization with Carina’s giving operations and general project management.

The Producer will work on the Astra Fund team to keep our internal operations running smoothly as we grow and explore new ways to expand the thinking game audience. The producer will also manage Astra’s Fellowship Program and support external production on game teams. The ideal candidate is an experienced game publishing or development producer who is excited to support an exceptional community of thinking game developers and explore ambitious strategies to broaden their audience.

Responsibilities

Fellowship Program Management

  • Manage annual Fellowship selection process
  • Act as point of contact with annual cohorts of 8-10 Astra Fellowship recipients to ensure each meets their goals
  • Coordinate Fellows community and professional development activities
  • Ensure Fellows receive support from the Astra network through mentorship, coaching, and community structures

Management of Selection Process

  • Manage game pitch flow in and out (communicate with applicant teams, check pitch content, follow-up & scheduling with developers, due diligence)
  • Scout for and keep a pulse on promising thinking game teams

External Production Support

  • Work with external game development teams on milestones and product goals
  • Scheduling, tracking, and reporting on external game production process
  • Collaborate in ongoing efforts to explore distribution efforts to reach low-income communities

Ops

  • Support financial and regulatory due diligence of potential investees
  • Own Astra/Carina’s database and grantmaking tools
  • Support on project management and fine tune org-wide processes and systems

Skills and experiences you’ll need to bring

  • 5+ years of game production experience, at least one shipped title preferred
  • Experience building and assessing game budgets and project roadmaps
  • Proficiency with databases, Airtable
  • Excellent project management skills (knowledge of Agile and other software development methodologies) and proficiency in managing multiple projects
  • Extensive knowledge of the game industry. Bonus: knowledge of puzzle & strategy genres
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail and strong ownership of work
  • Willingness to learn and approach challenges with curiosity

Preferred Location

Remote and/or Southern California. Will offer relocation assistance to move to Southern California. Also open to a fully remote US-based position with light quarterly travel.
