Backend Engineer (m/f/d)‍

We are looking for a versatile Backend Engineer (Games-as-a-Service) to join our team and work on our game Ultracore. As a Backend Engineer, you will work collaboratively with designers and fellow engineers to architect, implement and maintain Ultracore’s backend services.

We strive to build great experiences for players in the Survival Sandbox genre and that is what drives our teams. An ideal candidate will bring a collaborative mindset and be comfortable working in a remote setup.

The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of scalable and highly available backend systems and a desire to solve problems. The applicant must be proficient in Go or Python, at least one scripting language and eager to learn new technologies.‍

Your responsibilities:

• Architect and manage a large-scale, highly available live-service game backend using services like Playfab, Gamelift, or Accelbyte
• Design and maintain a scalable game server backend and operational infrastructure using services like Kubernetes, Agones or Multiplay
• Develop technical solutions for gameplay features based on online services
• Backend and client-side integration of our backend services
• Monitor the backend health and respond to any failures or glitches in order to deliver a smooth online experience to players all over the world‍

Your profile:

• 3+ years of work experience as a Backend Engineer
• Highly proficient in Go or Python
• Good knowledge of Unreal Engine.
• Proficiency in client-server networking architecture.
• Experience with cloud computing systems (AWS, GCP, etc.).
• Eager to learn new technologies
• Driven and self-motivated.
• Excellent English communication skills and comfortable working closely with other engineers, designers and producers in a fully remote environment.‍

Preferred:

• Experience servicing a live product is a plus.
• Good understanding of network protocols, REST APIs and JSON.
• Proficiency in C/C++
• Familiarity with container and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience working with online service providers such as PlayFab, Gamelift, or Accelbyte.
• Experience with build pipelines‍

Ultracore is a social survival sandbox game trying to modernize the genre with combining an instanced social hub where the whole game population can meet, trade and socialize with persistent survival sandbox world where the player is exploring the world of Ultracore.

Ultracore is based on the most popular German Pen & Paper show with Millions of views on YouTube and thousands of fan arts and a vibrant community. The game is build as a free-to-play live-service and planned to release on all platforms. The author of Ultracore Hauke Gerdes is Creative Director and Co-Founder together with a strong team of industry veterans.

Blankhans, the company behind the Ultracore game recently finished its Series Seed and got funded by the global leading games fund Griffin Gaming Partners.
