We are Boneloaf, a small team based out of Sheffield, United Kingdom. We are a group of game jammers, toy makers, and dreamers. We love working on experimental multiplayer party games, but we also like to prototype things outside of games and as such own 3D printers, a sewing machine and a tent! We continue to work on and update Gang Beasts, and continue to have a large and active community.
Do you have a few years experiencing working on 3D games in Unity? Fancy making new tools, working on input systems, tackling scripts, and generally everything else one could expect from a multiplayer physics game like Gang Beasts?
We’re looking for a programmer to work with Michael Brown, the CTO. Ideally, you’re shaped like an indie developer - you know how to ship things, you can dive into legacy code, and you’re comfortable tackling new challenges and not being task-managed.
If this is you - let’s talk!
Ideally you’re an indie minded, game-jam loving, physics savvy, creative developer! We’d love to find someone with good attention to detail, and a good eye for user-friendly design.
Here's what you'll be doing
Helping work on the physics system, with a focus on stability
Costume/stage set up
Tools creation (such as procedural prefabs)
Tinkering with the input framework
Adding new content and gameplay
Taking on technical challenges and finding your own solutions
Optimisations galore
Helping to establish and maintain an effective development pipeline and build process
Actively looking for and identifying process and game bottlenecks
We have an external development partner, Coatsink. We used to be partnered with Double Fine, but we have self-published since they were acquired by Microsoft. Coatsink manages a lot of the online implementation and updates, so we expect there to be some collaboration of your work between the two companies.
Apply if this describes you

At least 1 shipped title with you credited as programmer
Great English and communication skills
Excellent people skills and a kind approach to working with others
Proactive drive and ability to self-manage where necessary
Experience diving into legacy code
Able to write specifications
Mostly, we expect you to be an expert within the team, able to turn your attention to different areas of Gang Beasts development, along with the rest of us!
Bonus Experience
Experience using GitHub
Worked on multiple systems (Xbox, Playstation, Mac, Switch etc)
Experience working on a multiplayer game
An interest in machine learning and AI
Familiarity with VR/AR development
Light 3D modelling and/or art experience

26 holidays plus 10 days sick leave at full pay
Parental leave
In-house training
Generous pension scheme

An exciting programming role on a game played by millions!

Help shape the development of our future title
Applying for a job during a pandemic
Boneloaf is stable - we have a long runway, an active community, lots of things in the pipeline, and a 7 year history
We’ll provide you with all the equipment you need to create your perfect workspace at home (a desk, headset, webcam, snack box)
A remote job, forever. We have an office in Sheffield, but have no expectations of you moving. If you’d like to move when everything is OK again, we can help!
Recruitment Process
Apply! There are a couple of "Apply now" buttons on this page. You'll get an email from us to acknowledge receipt and another one to let you know if you've made it to stage 2.
Stage 2 will be a simple screener interview with 1-2 people from the company to meet you, get some context on your experience and goals, and whether our needs align.
Stage 3 might be a physics test, if we think it makes sense. We'll give you plenty of notice, and we'll compensate you for your time if you're taking it!
Stage 4 will be a deeper, technical interview with Michael. After this, you'll either get a job offer or some feedback from us to help you apply successfully in the future

About Gang Beasts
Gang Beasts is a silly multiplayer party game with surly gelatinous characters, brutal mêlée fight sequences, and absurdly hazardous environments. Set in the fictional meatropolis of Beef City.
