double loop games

We are a well-funded mobile game start-up focused on making delightful, relaxing experiences for the biggest audience in games: people who don’t think of themselves as gamers.

We're building an environment that's transparent, respectful, and family-friendly. Our current team is in California and Oregon, but we're happy to work with people remotely anywhere in the Americas. Diverse candidates encouraged. Kindness expected.

Double Loop Games is looking for a QA Lead who has deep knowledge and experience in testing live-operated mobile games, ensuring bug-free live updates, player account integrity, and exceptional player-facing experience. The QA Lead will research submission requirements, create testing procedures and workflows according to best practices, and work closely with Production, Design, Engineering, Art, and Data to develop test plans. They will also perform in-house testing and reporting, and help select and then manage external QA testers when we need to scale up test capacity for live launches.

You would be a perfect match for this position if you thrive in a heavily collaborative and iterative environment, you are enthusiastic about developing testing processes, managing bug databases, and ensuring high quality launches, and you are excited by the opportunity to make a visible impact on our games.

  • Ensure the team understands and uses best practices for testing live-operated mobile games, including versioning, test staging, cloning live accounts to test with, and more
  • Research and maintain the latest information on submission requirements to the App Store, Google Play, etc.
  • Research, document, and maintain a knowledge base of first-party test tools, technical requirements, and best practices
  • Perform functional and compliance testing, overseeing the execution of test plans and enforcing accurate bug reporting
  • Review and assess compliance reports from App Stores
  • Develop functional test cases and test plans curated to specific phases of development, (including Production, limited Soft Launch, and Global Launch), specific title features, and mock review feedback
  • Progressively refine test and general processes for continuous improvement in development and live operations
  • Triage bugs; review all issues entered by internal and external teams to ensure bug reports include required information, are properly assigned, and conform to Double Loop QA standards
  • Review all disputed (‘Not a Bug,’ ‘Will Not Fix,’ and ‘Duplicate’) issues with Production
  • Help select, and then lead an external QA test team. Act as their main point of contact, communicating their priorities and requirements, monitoring and evaluating their bug quality, and ensuring that proper workflow is followed
  • Manage QA resources and QA schedule for yourself and external test teams that will be scaled up and down through development phases
  • Coordinate the setup of hardware and test resources
  • Work with engineering to automatically generate meaningful daily reports on title quality and stability
  • Create daily or weekly (as needed) reports summarizing title quality, stability, and issues for stakeholders
  • Communicate significant game breaking and qualitative issues to Producers and company leadership
  • Understand and embrace the constraints of a game development cycle (know when bug fixing and optimization become more important than new features)

  • Experience with bug tracking solution required (JIRA / DevTrack / Bugzilla / etc.); experience with JIRA strongly preferred
  • 2+ years in a video game Lead QA role
  • 4+ years total video game QA experience
  • Able to identify defects in video games and report defects in a clear and concise manner
  • Able to compare implementation in-game against specifications and report variances in a clear and concise manner.
  • Capacity to create and implement innovative testing procedures and materials
  • Experience coordinating with external contractors preferred
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organization skills
  • Extreme attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and written
  • Conscientious and self-motivated

  • Experience on mobile F2P games live operated at scale
  • Bachelor's degree in a Computer Science, Computer Games Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Unity
  • Experience with profiling tools (Unity's profiler, Instruments, Snapdragon profiler)
  • Experience with testing analytics
  • A love of relaxing, delightful gameplay, and beautiful worlds filled with both outdoor spaces and intimate village life
  • A strong desire to step outside of your comfort zone and learn new things

  • Full-time role with benefits
  • Interesting, highly original work in a small, supportive and well-funded start-up led by two women who are industry veterans
  • Flexible working arrangements. Work from home wherever you may be as long as you have a reasonable number of overlapping hours with the pacific time zone (+/- 3 hours for this role) and fast, reliable internet connection
