Hidden Leaf Games is an indie game development studio founded with the mission of delivering a world-class experience that focuses on competition, progression and social play. We believe games are meant to be played together, regardless of skill level or platform. At our core, we’re players who deeply value the social and community interactions that competitive moments have to offer. We believe that competitive games create lasting moments and are committed to recreating that experience for others to enjoy.

We’re looking for a Tools Engineer with experience in Unreal Engine to join our team. You will help implement workflows and engine features that will make our game(s) performant and easy for designers and artists to contribute to. Your work will be instrumental in developing a world-class toolset that frees the team to focus on epic gameplay instead of struggling with Unreal. You will report to the Engineer Manager leading the FANGs gameplay engineering team and interact directly with the content creators, producers, and senior leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement tools and engine features for Unreal Engine and FANGS.
  • Analyze and fix common problems in a game engine such as load times, memory usage, and performance problems.
  • Work closely with game designers and artists to iterate on usability, tool performance and stability.
  • Coordinate with QA and Build Engineers to ensure tooling and releases occur without hiccups.
  • You will help define development standards/process for the engineering team to ensure future work is performant and extensible.
  • Be forward-thinking to keep up to date on current techniques, research, graphics data, hardware, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional experience as an engineer in games.
  • You’re comfortable working in Unreal Engine with a deep understanding of the game engine and editor concepts.
  • You are proficient in C++ and software engineering principles (OOP, data structures, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in performance and memory profiling and optimization.
  • Experience building developer tools for content management.
  • Clear english language communication skills both spoken and written.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previously worked on a live service game or shipped AAA titles.
  • Experience with shaders, particle systems, and 3D rendering.
  • Experience with UI tooling.
  • Experience with client/server game architecture.
