The News Writer will have proven digital skills and an enviable contacts book, to help deliver a high volume of daily gaming news to GamesRadar’s global audience.

Results-driven, and with an uncanny eye for a story, you’ll be excited by the challenge of getting stories first, delivering them as quickly as possible to a scale global audience, and developing the site’s reputation and brand in both the US and UK.

Reporting to the Editor of GamesRadar, with a strong dotted line to the News Editor, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing news content on GamesRadar, focusing on gaming, with TV and movie experience a welcome bonus. That will include writing and sourcing news, conducting interviews, and where appropriate, attending events - both virtual and physical. The role will also include aiding with the creation of news-led features, and SEO-focused content for the site, as well as other editorial duties as required. You may also be required to assist with the production of video-based articles or podcasts.

You will work closely with the News Editor and Editor to establish a workflow that delivers a daily schedule of regular articles which you will publish on site, and promote via the relevant Games group social channels. You will be responsible for meeting all your deadlines and liaising with colleagues - including in the print magazine teams - to ensure you produce high-quality content that always meets the needs of the readers.

You must also respond to reasonable requests from senior members of the editorial teams to help create and develop any of the department’s output, including promotional and marketing copy for websites, magazines, video, and social media.

You may also be required to travel overseas to attend events and conferences.

Example of content types you will be responsible for: news, features, video interviews, event coverage, social coverage of key industry events.

The job requires attention to detail, good organisation skills, a calm approach, self-discipline, cross-platform multi-tasking, industry contacts and a passion for games, movies and TV.

Key responsibilities

  • Write news articles and other editorial content for GamesRadar as required. Deliver quality, relevant and well-written copy to deadlines
  • Understand and deliver on readers’ needs
  • Improve, optimise and edit the content continuously based on rankings analysis to ensure maximum visibility. Use SEO tools and analytics to monitor the performance, maintain and improve search ranking, and hit SEO beats
  • Contribute to social media content as required
  • Work as part of a dedicated team providing this content at greater intensity during certain times of the year - for example, over key peak trading events or during seasonal peaks
  • Work closely with the wider editorial team and management to constantly seek to identify better ways of working, and improve the delivery of content
  • Report on performance to relevant stakeholders
  • Relentlessly pursue growth in audience for product pages and rises in those rankings
  • Help deliver marketing and/or promotional content for related products (eg magazine subs) as required


  • Exceptional editing and writing skills – a natural copy writer, from the ability to write snappy headlines to tight grammar control, through to the ability to choose just the right image to draw people in.
  • Ability to deliver sparkling copy to tight deadlines
  • First-rate SEO expertise and ability to apply it to our content
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about the games industry
