We’re a game studio working with a global leader in footwear and apparel on an innovative game project. We’re looking for an operations-focused member to join our team, co-lead our secret project, and embed full-time with our client.

Over the next year, we’re focused on three streams of work: 1) rapidly prototyping, play-testing, and researching the hardware-enabled game project, 2) finding smart, leveraged ways to test our findings with users to learn and adjust our strategy, 3) sharing our work and findings with our client, to usher the project into the next stage of development and figure out a go-to-market plan.

Our focus is on practical, tangible, and usable innovation that’s fun, engaging and relevant to players.

In your role, you’ll work with a small but mighty team of developers and artists and a senior group of client stakeholders to make decisions, guide prototyping and research, and communicate/present our ideas. We’re looking for a team member with operation/project management experience, ideally with leadership experience or a desire to lead. Experience at a game platform, working across the gaming ecosystem, or in a tech startup environment is a big plus.

Role Requirements

This is a communication, strategy, project management, and leadership-guiding role with a decent amount of ambiguity, but a matching amount of freedom to build, make decisions, and direct innovation.

This is a fully remote 12-month W2 contract, with an option to extend further. You’ll be expected to travel about 20% of your time, primarily to the west coast. In your role, you’ll be roughly 70% embedded with our partner/client and 30% working/helping to guide the development team.

What we’re looking for:

Below are the skills that we are looking for for this role:

  • Comfort with team and project leadership
  • Experience with experimentation, innovation and creating insights
  • Ability and comfort with making, presenting, and sharing presentations with senior executives
  • Experience with project management
  • Knowledge of product strategy
  • Ability to manage process and reporting

Bonus Skills & Qualities

Below are the skills that would help a candidate stand out, but we don’t expect you to have all of them. They are a great bonus, and we appreciate it if you highlight them in your work experience.*

  • Experience at a major game platform or major gaming brand
  • Core team experience at a funded startup (ideally a games ecosystem startup)
  • Experience/understanding of game hardware, with a focus on gaming peripherals
  • Experience pitching, guiding, and dealing with executive teams at a Fortune 100-level
  • Ability to navigate bureaucracy and comfort in a corporate environment
  • Our client is on PST time, so proximity to the PST timezone or an ability to work with that timezone is a plus

*We are aware that no one covers ALL of these bases, but each of the above is a potential asset to the project.

How to Apply

Apply by sending us an email with a subject line that includes the words “Secret Project - Operations Lead” and your CV, LinkedIn Profile, etc. A formal cover letter is completely unnecessary, but feel free to tell us about yourself in the email. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask. We look forward to hearing from you.

Qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, or disability. We’ll ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process and to perform essential job functions.

About Our Work and Workplace

We’re a growing team of 6 (soon 8!) that likes working in a thoughtful, balanced manner on games we love.  Our goal as a studio is to stay sustainable, happy, and making games for a long time. For the next 12 months, we’re focused on delivering on two projects. A 2D story-focused narrative game and this project. We’re purposefully selective about taking on additional work to be sustainable and happy as a studio.

Our goal is to have a diverse, inclusive team. We’re looking for team members that add to our culture, rather than fit into it. We really encourage applications from folks who are queer, trans, non-binary, people of colour, people with disabilities, parents, immigrants and identities traditionally underrepresented in the games industry.

As a team, we pride ourselves on having a flexible, family-friendly work schedule. We’ve worked hard to plan ahead and prevent ‘crunch’ before it happens.

Hilltop began in early 2020 and has grown to include the development of original IPs in the digital storytelling, gaming and multimedia spheres. Our experience in the startup and entertainment sectors gives our team a unique perspective on the game's landscape. We have gathered a team of robust, diverse talent who are poised to make some seriously fun games and enjoy working in a sustainable, reasonable manner.
