Hipster Whale is searching for a talented programmer to join our highly skilled, professional, and pragmatic engineering team. Utilising your considerable hands-on programming experience, you’ll support a small project team to bring delightful gameplay features to life.

This is a full-time position based at our studio in Melbourne, Australia. A remote position within Australia may be considered for the right candidate. Our team currently works from the office each Monday and Thursday, and remotely from home on the other days. We support individual flexibility arrangements and will accommodate requests wherever possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creatively develop solutions to help make our games as fun and rewarding for our players as possible
  • Work with our artists and level designers to rapidly iterate on new gameplay mechanics
  • Use C# and Unity to support the team with refining and debugging
  • Implement new UI screens and flows using Unity UI
  • Integrate mobile SDKs (ads, IAP, analytics)
  • Add platform specific functionality, while managing performance and compliance requirements
  • Optimise the game for target devices

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You’re an experienced cross-platform games programmer, having worked on several published titles
  • You’re knowledgeable about mobile game development and have taken projects through to polished release
  • You enjoy the challenge of learning and improving upon an established codebase
  • You work well independently and can set your own milestones, while still being an excellent team player
  • You enjoy arcade/casual/mobile games and appreciate great gameplay controls

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years professional experience, ideally working with Unity and C#, or willingness to adapt to from C++
  • Worked on shipped mobile, console or PC games
  • Must be legally able to work in Australia

 

BONUS POINTS

  • Lifecycle experience publishing and optimising titles for various platforms
  • Network programming experience
  • Strong linear algebra and 3D math skills
  • Any physics experience (forces, angular velocity, friction, etc.)
  • Demonstrable skills or interest in game design, art, UX or other cross-disciplines
  • Familiarity with agile development (Jira, Kanban, sprints, etc.)
  • Demos and code samples are always fantastic to see
  • We’re also keen to hear about any other interests that you may have which could contribute positively to our studio!
