Iron Galaxy is looking for experienced Senior Programmers to join our world-class engineering team. Senior Programmers at Iron Galaxy work on a wide variety of projects, including creating new games from the ground up, co-developing games with partners, and porting existing games to new platforms. Our projects tend to have shorter development cycles; it’s not uncommon for a programmer to work on more than one project in a year. We’ve found that this helps keep things fresh and provides opportunities to utilize experience gained from previous projects.
As a Senior Programmer, you will be expected to take ownership of significant features and systems, debug difficult problems, and provide guidance and feedback to help your teammates grow. You should be comfortable navigating an unfamiliar codebase. While you may have one or more areas of expertise, you aren’t afraid to venture into other domains. In addition to your technical skills, you should have strong communication skills, and work well with diverse cross-functional teams. Responsibilities vary based on the project, and we will also aim to place you on projects that play to your strengths while also giving you room to grow. Here are some examples of what a Senior Programmer might be expected to do.
Here’s our wish list for the ideal Senior Software Engineer at Iron Galaxy. If you possess many or most of these qualities, you may very well be the one we’re looking for!
COVID Safety Notice: Iron Galaxy employees can elect to work from home until March of 2022. This policy extends to hires between now and then. Any equipment that you might need for projects will be shipped to you directly.

After Double Helix was acquired by Amazon in 2014, Microsoft decided to bring on a new partner to continue development on Killer Instinct for the Xbox One. With a reputation in the industry as one of the best fighting game shops in games, and our love for the iconic Killer Instinct property, we were thrilled to get to work on this title. After taking over from the talented developers over at Double Helix, Iron Galaxy quickly got to work rebooting this fantastic game for Seasons 2 & 3.
Iron Galaxy teamed up with Modus Games to create Extinction, a skill-based combat action-adventure game starring Avil, one of the last remaining Sentinels tasked with taking down towering beasts called Ravenii. Our fighting game roots helped us to develop a fun and satisfying combat system, complete with the ability to traverse the map horizontally and vertically, execute perfect wall runs and use your whip to perform a number of moves.
Divekick is the world’s first two-button fighting game. It distills the essence of the fighting game genre into just two buttons with no d-pad directional movement. Divekick’s focused gameplay demonstrates how much depth a single move actually has, and introduces (or reinforces) skills fundamental to the genre: mind games, spacing, timing, and quick reactions.
