Ironwood Studios is a new Seattle based AA game studio composed of experienced developers. We’re looking for a Lead Environment Artist to join our small team to bring places to life in our first unannounced title, a genre-bending, systems-driven 3D game set in a surreal and mysterious world.
As the lead environment artist on the project, your job will be to drive the creation of the environment art that makes up our unique world and tells its story.
You thoroughly enjoy and understand the process of creating strange new environments.
You are proactive and value open communication between yourself and the disciplines around you
You have a strong interest in self development, and the development and mentoring of those around you
You are excited about the challenge of telling unique and interesting stories with your artwork
You have a positive attitude and are compassionate and respectful to those around you
Fully own the creation of the artwork multiple levels, taking them from design blockout to completion
Work closely with the creative director to establish and communicate visual direction
Develop cohesive, modular, and efficient techniques & pipelines for creating environment art
Collaborate with design and production to manage the timeline and schedule of the levels you create
Lead, mentor, and guide any additional environment artists on your team
Work with narrative to tell stories with your environments and to convey the themes of the plot.
Participate in team brainstorming bringing your ideas and experiences to the table for various aspects of the game
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Multiple shipped title (AAA or AA) as an environment artist
Excellent understanding of 3D environment creation, pipelines, and industry standard software
Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and familiarity with its technical constraints
Has an excellent portfolio clearly showing your previous work as an artist
Experience working with version control (we use Perforce)
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Comfortable in small development team settings (less than 25)
Familiarity with Houdini and comfortable guiding tool development based on the needs of your team
Experience working with outsourcing studios
