Ironwood Studios is a new Seattle based AA game studio composed of experienced developers. We’re looking for a Technical/VFX Artist to join our small team to help breathe life and dynamics elements into our first unannounced title, a genre-bending, systems-driven 3D game set in a surreal and mysterious world.

As the technical/vfx artist on the team, your primary responsibility will be the creation and ownership of VFX and dynamic materials within the game.


  • You thoroughly enjoy the challenge of solving technical art problems that come with the creation of your work
  • You speak both the language of artistic and the technical and enjoy bridging the gap in creative ways
  • You are proactive and value open communication between yourself and the disciplines around you
  • You have a positive attitude and are compassionate and respectful to those around you
  • You craft and implement compelling moments using your knowledge of technical art and VFX


  • Responsible for conceiving, developing and implementing environment, cutscene, and gameplay VFX
  • Work closely with the creative leadership to insure visual style of VFX is consistent with the art direction
  • Collaborate with designers to understand and comply with functional and gameplay requirements of VFX
  • Creating and iterating on beautiful material, post-processing, and environmental shaders in Unreal Engine
  • With engineering support, work to track and improve art related performance across the game
  • Participate in team brainstorming bringing your ideas and experiences to the table


  • 3+ years working in games (AAA or AA) as an VFX or Technical Artist  (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficient knowledge of 3D environment creation, pipelines, and industry standard software
  • Excellent skills working in UE4 as a VFX/Tech Artist, including Blueprint, Cascade/Niagara and the Material Editor
  • Strong understanding of  technical restrictions/limitations for high end real-time content and hardware
  • Good understanding of timing and animation principles
  • Experience in industry standard 2D/3D software required to create VFX basics for destruction,particles, etc
  • Has an excellent portfolio clearly showing your previous work as an artist


  • Comfortable in small development team settings (less than 25)
  • Familiarity with Houdini & Houdini Engine
  • Knowledge of rendering technology and/or programming languages


  • Fulltime Salary Position
  • PST Time zone hours (+/- 3 hours)
  • Remote at start, on-site when it’s safe (relocation included)
