KO_OP is an artist run and owned, co-op studio. Founded in 2012, we've been experimenting with games and interactive art ever since. We are the makers of GNOG, Lara Croft GO: The Mirror of Spirits, Winding Worlds, and Goodbye Volcano High. Learn more about our studio at ko-opmode.com.

We're looking to contract a 2D animator to join our team remotely. The position requires 30-40 hours' work a week. The rate for this position at KO_OP is 25 CAD an hour. The length of the contract is expected to be 1 year.

We are seeking a skilled 2D rigger and animator who can work in Esoteric Spine software on KO_OP's upcoming game, Goodbye Volcano High. Knowledge of animation principles as well as familiarity with common anime-style animation techniques will be necessary for this position. You will be working alongside our Art Director and Animation Director to help us develop our animation workflow as well as rigging and animating characters and environmental elements in the game. Experience with Unity and integrating assets is a plus.

The Job:

  • Creating anime-inspired character rigs for animation
  • Responsible for creating high-quality 2D Spine character animations
  • Reports to the project's Animation Director
  • Support the marketing team by providing occasional art, animations, and motion graphics to be used in trailers and videos
  • Integrate completed assets in Unity

We're looking for:

  • A strong portfolio
  • Comprehensive understanding of traditional 2D animation principles
  • The ability to emulate a high quality television style inspired by Anime
  • Experience with rigging 2D Anime-style characters in Spine or similar software
  • Someone who fits in well with our collaborative, creative culture
  • Someone with experience with 2D Spine Animation or similar software in the games or animation industry
  • Ability to deliver work matching the game's visual style and artistic directions
  • Great time-management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
