We are looking for an art director to help us drive the artistic vision and development of a charming single-player hotel management simulation.

This is a full-time remote-working managerial position with flexible hours, joining our executive team.  As Art Director, you will see the creation of our games from start to finish, including by helping to define the aesthetic of the game, collaboratively communicating that vision to our art team, mentoring and supporting the art team as assets are developed, and contribute to that development process themselves.  We are looking for somebody to join us for the long-haul and lend their creative vision to the future catalogue of LRDG products.  We aim to provide a healthy and fun work environment that is diverse and inclusive.

Little Red Dog Games has been developing deceptively strategic videogames that look and feel different for almost a decade.  We have deep experience working with partners all over the world, as well as strict no-crunch policies and our company philosophy is grounded in the ideal of a healthy work-life balance and ethical game development.

Responsibilities

  • Create concept paintings and other benchmark assets that establish quality expectations and inspire others.
  • Participate virtually in regular executive-level meetings and art-team meetings as-needed.
  • Provide coaching and leadership for our artist team.
  • Help drive to build the talent of the team.
  • Participation in the development of 3D assets, with a specific emphasis towards modelling, rigging and animation.
  • Working alongside an international team of designers, programmers, artists and audio engineers.

Qualifications

  • In-industry experience crafting video game art.
  • Willingness to assume a leadership role to drive the creative direction of a game.
  • You truly enjoy working with others.
  • You love a good strategy game.
  • You love the freedom and flexibility that comes with teleworking.
  • You take initiative to solve problems and have excellent follow-through.
  • Extensive experience in developing a unique and cohesive visual style in a team environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering clear and consistent visual feedback that elevates the art team's work.
  • A desire to work closely with game design to make sure the game's art improves the player experience.

Benefits

  • QSEHRA health insurance arrangement (US).
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Vacation and compensatory leave.
  • A no-crunch employer who believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Application Materials

  • Resume.
  • Cover letter (optional).
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant artistic skills.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact ryan@lrdgames.com.  Principals only. No recruiters, please.

Our Games

You helped to transition your beloved country from a monarchy into a true democracy.  Now it is time to rebuild, reform and prepare for new challenges as the Glorious People's Republic of Basenji becomes a new political, economic and cultural hotspot in Rogue State Revolution. A completely new and re-imagined Rogue State, get ready for a highly challenging roguelike geopolitical thriller designed for both longtime fans and new arrivals.

Precipice is a game of diplomacy and war in the atomic age. Safeguard your closest allies and change unfavorable regimes without giving away your long-term ambitions. Every action risks an enemy reprisal, and if nobody backs down from a standoff, we all lose.

Deep Sixed is a roguelike space sim that will force you to use strategy, ingenuity and duct tape to keep your ship (and your skull) in one piece as you risk exploring a mysterious nebula protected by dangerous alien creatures.

🚀 If deep-space life sims are more your thing, our good friends (and fellow Modern Wolf published) Blue Bottle Games are looking for a programmer to help them with Ostranauts.
