We are looking to hire an experienced Unreal programmer for an indeterminate full-time position to support development of a charming single-player hotel management simulation.  In this role, you will work in a hands-on position alongside a lead programmer, a part-time assistant programmer, a part-time QA codebreaker, and a paid intern bringing the vision for this game to life.  In this role, you will be delegated the responsibility of developing a variety of mechanical systems that could range from complex pathfinding to character interaction patterns to dynamic room construction to UI development.  No two days will be the same and all team members will work with all aspects of the codebase.  We are looking for somebody to join us for the long-haul and lend their talents to the future catalogue of LRDG products.  We aim to provide a healthy and fun work environment that is diverse and inclusive.

Little Red Dog Games has been developing deceptively strategic videogames that look and feel different for almost a decade.  We have deep experience working with partners all over the world, as well as strict no-crunch policies and our company philosophy is grounded in the ideal of a healthy work-life balance and ethical game development.  The timing is perfect as you would be joining us just before we break ground on this new endeavor.  This will be our first product developed in the Unreal Engine and we are very excited about the migration to a new set of tools.  This is a remote working position with no expectation of eventual relocation.  You would be a full part of our team, we share everything and everyone gets a voice.  Salary negotiable.

Qualifications

  • Shipped 1+ titles on PC or game consoles.
  • 2+ years of experience working in UE4.
  • Comfortable implementing, debug, and optimizing the game systems for a hotel management simulation, ranging from character pathfinding to inventory screens.
  • Experience with C++.
  • Very strong communication skills in English, being able to both understand the game vision, foresee potential problems and propose solutions.
  • Embraces challenges.
  • A love of indie games and a great sense of humor.

Benefits

  • QSEHRA health insurance arrangement (US).
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Vacation and compensatory leave.
  • A no-crunch employer who believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Application Materials

  • Resume.
  • Cover letter (optional).
  • Portfolio of past works.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact ryan@lrdgames.com.  Principals only. No recruiters, please.

Our Games

You helped to transition your beloved country from a monarchy into a true democracy.  Now it is time to rebuild, reform and prepare for new challenges as the Glorious People's Republic of Basenji becomes a new political, economic and cultural hotspot in Rogue State Revolution. A completely new and re-imagined Rogue State, get ready for a highly challenging roguelike geopolitical thriller designed for both longtime fans and new arrivals.

Precipice is a game of diplomacy and war in the atomic age. Safeguard your closest allies and change unfavorable regimes without giving away your long-term ambitions. Every action risks an enemy reprisal, and if nobody backs down from a standoff, we all lose.

Deep Sixed is a roguelike space sim that will force you to use strategy, ingenuity and duct tape to keep your ship (and your skull) in one piece as you risk exploring a mysterious nebula protected by dangerous alien creatures.

🚀 If deep-space life sims are more your thing, our good friends (and fellow Modern Wolf published) Blue Bottle Games are looking for a programmer to help them with Ostranauts.
