🌿 About Lumi Interactive:

Our mission is to help every woman find a moment of relaxation in their day, building self-kindness and mental resilience on their own terms.

We’re a team of game developers building Kinder World to achieve this goal - a comforting game of houseplants, healing and practicing kindness. Our goal is to create a new category of wellbeing game, building mental wellbeing and resilience skills through joyful play.

Our female-founded team has launched the alpha version of Kinder World to hundreds of thousands of players, and we’re now entering an exciting period of growth.

🌿 What makes us special?

❤️ We care about your career. We’ll craft your role to suit you, and help you actively grow toward your goals!

✨ You're in charge. We believe in your ability to make independent decisions, and we will empower you to impact our direction.

🌏 You’ll work in the way that fits you best. We’re HQ’d in Melbourne, Australia but can work with remote superstars anywhere, embracing workplace flexibility.

🚀 You’re helping us grow from a sprout to a flower. We're entering an exciting period of growth with an unannounced partnership. Big moves are happening!

🌿 What’s the role?

Our Senior Game Designer owns the game mechanics and systems of Kinder World. You’ll work with the product team and Wellbeing Researcher to create innovative ‘tend and befriend’ game mechanics with real mental wellbeing benefits, as well as collaborating with our Game Writer to build a compassionate and caring Kinder World universe. There will also be a chance to work with our data scientists to design a collaborative community with a potential ‘kindness’ AI backend.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Translating product vision and principles into game mechanics and game system design
  • Working with team members to deliver designs that help players measurably relax and build mental resilience skills
  • Cross-functional communication, such as translating design ideas into logical steps to be converted into code, and to communicate the mood and feeling you’d like to achieve so artists can create appropriately
  • Showing kindness and compassion for our players through their game experience
  • Drive business objectives by incorporating ethical monetisation design with team support
  • Iterating and working with focus to address UX issues, retention concerns etc
  • Working with the Chief Product Officer and Product Manager to break down designs into production sprints
  • Working with the marketing team to understand the audience you’re designing for, and how the players receive and give feedback on their experiences

🌿 To be effective, we believe you need to:

  • Have experience in developing games that have a wholesome, cozy or relaxing atmosphere, or specifically designing ‘tend and befriend’ mechanics
  • Have worked on a mobile game or a product throughout its life cycle, as well as during its LiveOps stage
  • Be excited by the opportunity to help design a new category of game
  • Love delivering value and delightful experiences to our players
  • Be eloquent in communicating your ideas across different departments
  • Enjoy working with a variety of team members, sometimes in close collaboration
  • Find motivation in our purpose to create a kinder world
  • Have an interest in understanding and creating for our target audience
  • Thrive on the quirks and constraints of developing for a mobile F2P game
  • Have excellent communication and professional relationship skills

We celebrate our inclusive work environment and welcome members of all backgrounds and perspectives to apply. At Lumi Interactive we're committed to developing and upholding an inclusive, transparent, and comfortable environment for all.

We aim for a clear recruitment process and barrier-free work environment for successful candidates. If our work team requires any accommodation, we work with them to meet accessibility needs.

This annual salary for a full time employee in this role is expected to range between $100k AUD $110k AUD, based on experience. We also provide a monthly ‘creativity allowance’ to experiment and learn with your coworkers, as well as ESOP.

🌿 About Kinder World

Kinder World is a game of houseplants, healing and practicing kindness.

In a relaxing and lush atmosphere of their own design, playing Kinder World gently improves the way players treat themselves. To take care of plants in-game, players complete small gentle activities like gratitude, stretching or breathing exercises. By sharing supportive messages and plant cuttings, players practice being kind to each other and contribute to the growth of the world-wide Community Tree.
