Nexus is looking for our next passionate and customer-obsessed team member to continue building out the Nexus platform, bringing together video gaming publishers, content creators, and players in new and meaningful ways.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be designing, developing, maintaining, and deploying mission critical systems for the Nexus platform. You will work closely with a small, fast-paced product and engineering team as well as stakeholders across all disciplines and departments to ensure our platform can meet the needs of game publishers and content creators at scale. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across, and significantly impact, many different backend and frontend systems both existing and greenfield.

As the engineering lead on our small team, we are looking for a team member with the ability and interest to contribute directly to the Nexus codebase and to the overall strategic direction of the team’s efforts. In your lead capacity you will work with the leadership team to shape and understand the vision and goals for Nexus and, in turn, translate that clearly into our engineering effort and decisions. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy systems, applications, APIs, toolkits, and utilities with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and usability
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the company to define technical requirements
  • Provide technical leadership on a small, nimble, and talented engineering team
  • Drive technical prioritization, planning rituals, and engineering processes 
  • Collaborate and communicate directly with company leadership on engineering priorities, needs, and accomplishments
  • Contribute to and improve coding best practices, documentation, and standards
  • Interface with customers as a subject matter expert on platform integrations
  • Build user-facing tools for both rich web applications and command-line interfaces
  • Design data systems and automation pipelines to increase efficiency
  • Collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment

Ideal person for this role

  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering and releasing scaled web products
  • Hands-on experience building end-to-end systems and services from the backend to the frontend
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional startup environment where you will have the chance to take initiative and help shape the future of Nexus
  • Proficiency w/ SQL databases (MySQL, Redis, etc)
  • Proficiency in modern web development technologies and frameworks (ReactJS, NodeJS, Javascript ES6, HTML, CSS, SASS, etc)
  • Experience building RESTful APIs in languages such as C#, Node, Java, Go, etc
  • Experience using cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience w/ application containerization like Docker, Kubernetes, or Docker Swarm
  • Experience working on and analyzing high-traffic, responsive web sites, applications, and APIs
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly articulate difficult and complex subjects with both technical and non-technical teammates
  • Comfortable with customer-facing communication
  • Ability to effectively prioritize inputs from many stakeholders
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional startup environment where you will have the chance to take initiative and help shape the future of Nexus

  • Technical leadership and mentorship experience
  • Experience working in a SaaS and/or startup environment
  • Experience w/ e-commerce, payments, and fraud detection
  • Professional experience with game backends or middleware
