Peace. NuChallenger is looking for a Unity Programmer to help finish the upcoming DLC for the tactical brawler Treachery in Beatdown City. This is primarily focused on implementing new enemies (we have a lot of them!) but may include some UI work, some map design work, and feature development/testing.

NuChallenger is an independent games and culture studio based in the USA. This is a remote part-time freelance contract position for 4 days a week at an hourly rate, based on experience.

If you’re a Unity programmer but have concerns about a lack of (exact) experience, please still apply.

NuChallenger is a Black owned company that values diversity of talent - we’re all about a good, open culture, and we aim to work with great people.

  • Push regular commits to an SVN repository.
  • Work with project management tools to keep team members informed of progress.
  • Implement and test new gameplay features working closely with other team members.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience developing games in Unity (or just be dope at what you do.)
  • Proficient in C#.
  • Ability to understand and use code that was written by other programmers.
  • Ability to articulate and explain technical problems and work with game designer and other programmers on solving them.
  • Ability to take and give criticism in a constructive and goal-oriented way.
  • Ability to properly estimate time.
  • A good understanding of optimization for PC and Console.
  • Ability to work well remotely and stay in communication with the team.

  • Extensive experience with hit/hurtboxes.
  • Extensive knowledge of Unity animation system.
  • A good sense of 2D camera work.
  • Familiarity with Treachery in Beatdown City.
  • At least 1 shipped game, preferably on Steam and/or Switch - we know lots of games get canceled, so that’s why this is a nice to have.
  • A Switch development kit
  • Familiarity with Xbox and Playstation (4 and/or 5) environments
  • Experience with using OBS to record gameplay for review.
  • Experience with Tiled map editor.
