Full Time

Note: We are a fully-remote company! This job, like all our jobs, is fully remote!

Hello, fellow maker of games. This is Andrew, CEO of Playmake. We make 3D casual games; our flagship game Murder Party is the best hidden-role game on Roblox; 3.5M players a month can’t be wrong! We think 3D casual will be the next wave of interesting games to make - maybe you’d like to join us?

We’re looking for a senior candidate to architect systems which can be used across games. What’s different about this role at Playmake is that you’ll be an equal participant in the design conversation. If you like to sit in a corner (we’re remote, so that’s a metaphorical corner) and deliver lines of code, this is not the job for you; on the flip side, if finding the fun in collaboration with Art/UX is what gets you out of bed in the morning, apply!

The most important thing to know about us is that we work in a highly visual, prototype-centric way. We don’t use design docs with hundreds of pages, we iterate on visual and in-engine prototypes. Here’s a recent sketch of our multiplayer item forge:

We believe this is the best way for a remote, async team to communicate and iterate and that having a shared vision of a prototype helps get us to the fun the fastest. Everyone on the team (engineers, artists, UX, design) contributes to making visual prototypes, either in a tool like Figma, or directly in-engine. We’re not looking for programmers who simply want to implement specs all day – we’re looking for people who want to work collaboratively to design features from end to end as an equal participant in the design conversation. Sounds awesome, right?

You know what’s even more awesome? Our team. The thing that underpins our success at Playmake is our mutual respect. We don’t believe in insane working hours. We have team members on four continents; we just ask that you have three hours of overlap with PST. We know you’re a professional, so we let our folks self-prioritize to get their work done; you won’t find scrum, agile, or micromanagement here.

You \*do\* need:

  • 6 years of experience programming commercially-released games,
  • With experience in free-to-play,
  • And the ability to do frontend and backend work

If most or all of this sounds good, what are you waiting for? Hit that apply button!

Playmake is dedicated to making the best games on Roblox.

Our mission is to learn, better than anyone else, what this emerging audience wants. The best games in this new world – uniquely 3D, multiplayer, and casual – are just waiting to be discovered.

We’re growing fast. Around 3.5 million players a month play our games; we more than tripled our playerbase in the past 12 months.

We decentralize decision-making as much as possible, giving individual team members latitude to prioritize, design, and implement their own projects.

We are fully remote, with team members on 4 continents. You can work from anywhere with an Internet connection.
