Come be a part of Prologue studio as a lead VFX Artist building world-class experiences that span AR and VR. We are focused on building the best possible social and gaming experiences and believe that AR/VR will help define the future of online interaction. As a lead VFX Artist, you will effectively collaborate with a wide range of disciplines such as product design, engineers, producers, product managers, and art direction to ideate and build assets to define our CrimeTrip experiences.

In addition to experience in the skills of the craft, from gameplay driven systems, to environmental atmospherics and destruction, we are looking for someone passionate about the creative process behind distilling high-level vision of gameplay experience, tone, and storytelling, into distinctive and compelling VFX to support the characters, worlds, and various assets within.

In this leadership role we are also looking for a strong ability to serve as an advocate for the VFX team, guiding other artists through both mentorship and critique and helping to continue to advance the studio’s capabilities and process for creative and technical FX development.


  • Work with the artists and game designers to establish visual style and production pipelines/processes for visual effects
  • Bring stunning and believable lighting & VFX setups to our world, with an emphasis on lightning and material setup.
  • Improving and maintaining a data-driven lightning setup without requiring manual tweaking.
  • Assisting artists in establishing asset requirements supporting the lighting and material setup.
  • Contributing to automation efforts in the assets-pipeline.
  • Continuously monitoring visual quality.
  • Preventing visual regression.
  • Increasingly ramping-up visual fidelity in line with development progress.
  • Defining and validating the art workflow and art content pipeline.
  • Collaborating with other disciplines to identify and resolve issues.
  • Work with the production department to prioritize tasking and scheduling of the VFX group and scope to the goals of the gameplay experience against time and resources
  • Provide feedback and mentorship to other VFX Artists on the team, both for executing on a compelling vision for the games we make, as well as helping each to grow and thrive in their professional artistic careers
  • Help continue expand the capabilities VFX team, through training and team building, refinements of process and techniques, and candidate recruiting and hiring

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience with VFX graph
  • Experience with game profiling and optimization techniques
  • Experience working with shaders
  • Experience creating 3D art pipeline tools
  • Experience collaborating on multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience communicating across team members including engineers and artists
  • Industry experience as a VFX Artist in a leadership role
  • Portfolio that demonstrates a breadth of technical and artistic execution of real-time VFX
  • Communication skills and experience both giving and receiving creative and artistic critique
  • Experience as a VFX artist in games, using a real-time authoring toolset such as Unity and various supplemental 3D and VFX authoring packages, such as Maya, Houdini, and Substance.
  • Interest in games and the future of Virtual Reality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping products with stringent runtime performance constraints, such as complex mobile or 3D applications or games
  • Knowledge of low level real-time graphics pipeline concepts
  • Experience with Unity and/or Unreal
  • Experience working with Git
  • Virtual reality experience (Rift, Vive, GearVR, Oculus, etc.)
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies


The Employee will be entitled to 2 weeks (10 days of paid vacation) for the first year. As another benefit, the Employee will receive Four (4) paid sick days (two more than the days offered by the Canadian government). At the end of the year, if a sick day balance is available, the Employee can then convert it into vacation or salary, at the discretion of the Employee. Prologue closes its operations for the December holiday season, these days off will be communicated to the Employee in advance and will not be taken into account in the calculation of days of annual vacation holiday.
