Hey there, we’re Qloud Games, and we’re working on Loftia. We’re a tight-knit, fully remote team with members from all over the globe. We are searching for a 3D Environment / Level Artist to join as a core part of our team and lead the efforts to bring our vision and concepts to life.

Set in a city on the floating sky island, Loftia is a cozy and fresh take on the MMO genre, where players will farm, build, and contribute to the growth of a solarpunk world. Heavily inspired by games such as Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, Loftia aims to mix the chill, relaxing atmosphere of those games with the social and community-oriented aspects of a massively multiplayer game. The core underlying theme is to envision a world entrenched in sustainability, and a sense of community and shared hope for the future.

We’re looking for someone who is excited about this crazy big mission, and is experienced in the creation of stylized 3D assets and familiar with level art. The work will focus around environment and level art, but may skew more one way or the other depending on candidates strengths. Our art style and direction is one inspired by games such as Animal Crossing and Pokemon Sword & Shield.

We are using Unreal Engine 5 and Git, as such familiarity with both is a bonus for candidates applying to this position. With these software packages, there may be unique challenges on occasion, on which you will work together with our team to overcome.

What you’ll be doing

  • Using the 3D software of your choice to create 3D environmental assets to be used in the game, bringing our team’s vision and concepts to life. Doing so whilst adhering to the principles of our Art Bible, with freedom to experiment with the style where appropriate.
  • Cooperatively building levels in Unreal 5 through each stage of development, from greybox to final with set dressing, in order to accomplish gameplay and visual goals.
  • Work together with the art team to develop and manage the pipeline for asset creation and integration

What we’re looking for

  • someone who is proactive and outspoken, meshes well culturally with our team, is motivated and is passionate about the power of cozy games, and our vision of sharing a brighter, solarpunk future world with gamers across the globe
  • substantial portfolio of past work consisting of stylised hand-painted 3D art, especially environmental assets
  • strong understanding of 3D modelling, UV mapping, texture painting, collision, and other relevant techniques. Bonus: expertise in rigging & animations, and knowledge of shaders.
  • knowledge of lighting, composition, color theory, and architecture as applied to level building
  • a growth mindset, with the ability to learn on the job, and an eagerness to solve potentially new and unique challenges
  • capable of working well remotely, asynchronously, and collaboratively in a team setting, and strong written & verbal communication skills in English
  • someone with a flexible schedule, as due to the global nature of our team, meetings can sometimes be at suboptimal times locally due to needing to accommodate people across many different time zones.
  • prefer 1+ year industry experience

Employment details

  • Form of employment: Full-time contract, 40 hours/week (flexible with leave)
  • Employment length: 6 months, with potential to transform into a longer-term, permanent position
  • Employment location: Fully remote
  • Start date: as soon as possible
  • Rate: $20-$30 USD/hour
