Sentient Play is looking for an exceptionally talented Art Lead and 3D artist to help us explore, create, and deliver innovative games. Become one of the founding members pathfinding a remote-first studio. You will help set the art direction for the studio in collaboration with our Creative Director/CEO and manage all internal or external 2D/3D art teams.
You will be a team leader and a team player who can collaborate across disciplines in a fun and inclusive environment, sharing ideas and expertise while maintaining a big picture view of the product.
Our new game is a semi-stylized, top down game in a unique mix of Art Nouveau with some medieval and Victorian elements. It is wrapping up prototyping and about to head into full preproduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Expand on initial vision to create a unified and engaging look and feel for the game
- Make creative decisions with both budget and quality in mind
- Create a healthy working environment, ensuring positive scenarios of success for your team
- Convey creative vision and expectations to the rest of art team (concept artists, modelers, etc.) and give actionable feedback
- Drive all internal and external art efforts toward a unified vision
- Develop art pipeline and tools required to successfully deliver creative requirements that make for the best player experience
- Hands on–creating both 2d and 3d assets
- Work closely with the design team and development team to ensure all art deliverables meet technical and design requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years industry experience
- Shipped at least one significant and relevant PC or console title as a lead
- A portfolio demonstrating existing work
- Experience with character and environment creation
- Ability to work in semi-stylized art styles
- Knowledge of best practices in setting up Unity art asset pipelines
- Aptitude for providing feedback, noting potential issues, and leading other artists
- Strong competency in 3D modeling software
- Competence in designing modular assets for function and decoration of procedural levels
- Ability to use Jira or other issue tracking tools as well as digital asset management tools and workflows
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Able to work in CT timezone (UTC-5/-6) +/- 3 hours
Desired Experience
- Experience with Art Nouveau-style artwork and other 1899-era style and design
- Play and/or creation of basebuilding survival games, colony sims, and ARPGs
- Substance and 3d model texturing
- Other related skills like Technical Art, lighting design, vfx/particles, shaders, concept art, storyboarding, rigging
