Serenity Forge is looking for a Level (Environment) Artist to help build a rich interactive world for an 3D game project under development in Unreal Engine. Under the supervision of the Art Director and in collaboration with narrative and game designers, you will work in Unreal Engine 5 to craft compelling game environments through new and existing 3D assets, creative lighting, and overall composition of the space.

This position may be remote, but the strongest candidates will be located in Colorado or willing to relocate in the near future, all else being equal.

Role Responsibilities

• Generate ideas for levels that contribute to the vision of the game in concert with narrative systems and motivations
• Work in Unreal to set-dress levels according to general and scene-specific aesthetic guidance, using level blockouts constructed by designers atop landscapes created by the art team as your foundation
• Consult designers in the dressing and polish of your designed levels to highlight story beats and amplify the intended player experience
• Collaborate with programmers on gameplay events and behaviors to provide motivated spaces for puzzles and interactables
• Consult with technical specialists to guide the optimization of your environments and the creation of in-house tools that may assist your process

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven experience as an environment artist or level designer on a commercially shipped title
• Deep intuition for how level and gameplay design can be leveraged to support the narrative and visual facets of a game
• Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to adapt those creative intuitions to actionable development guidance for yourself and others
• Demonstrable proficiency with Unreal, its world-building tools, and its foliage systems
• Strong understanding of how a high-level prompt for a desired level or event can be ideated, drafted, iterated, and polished into a functional, creative, shippable level

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Proficiency in visual media such as concept art; environmental, architectural, and interior design; illustration and storyboarding; or 3D modeling
• Experience with Blueprints scripting for behaviors, tools, procedural art, etc.
• A portfolio of work that demonstrates a diverse range of environmental design and an ability to convey through composition, staging, and lighting
• Familiarity with new experimental modeling and world creation tools in UE5, including but not limited to procedural content generation (PCG) tools

Compensation and Benefits Offered

• $55,000 - $75,000 / year, based on experience and skillset
