Serenity Forge is looking for a Technical Artist for a 3D game project under development in Unreal Engine 5. Under the supervision of the Art Director and in concert with artists and programmers, you will develop shaders and VFX, assist with the creation of technical standards and tools for the art team, and help build and maintain a strong visual pipeline.

This position may be remote, but the strongest candidates will be located in Colorado or willing to relocate in the near future, all else being equal.


Role Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor artistic goals and progress, and communicate technical concerns and opportunities to the team
  • Collaborate with the art and tech teams to define, create, and maintain robust, reliable art pipelines
  • Develop shaders, effects, and procedural tools to facilitate various unique visual styles
  • Perform R&D for any new technology needed for solving various technical challenges
  • Audit the engine and help to manage graphical performance at runtime and in editor


Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as a technical artist on a commercially shipped title
  • Knowledge of both aesthetic and technical aspects of game art
  • Experience in technical art on a team project
  • Understanding of 3D asset workflows and optimization
  • Experience with node graphs, VFX graphs, and particle systems
  • Experience in Unreal Engine 5
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and needs


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with procedural art tools like Houdini, UE5 Geometry Scripting, or Blender Geometry Nodes
  • Additional 3D art experience in industry-standard programs such as Maya, Blender, 3Ds Max, and Substance Suite
  • Experience in shader programming (HLSL or GLSL)
  • Creative and/or technical experience with lighting for games in Unreal Engine
  • C++ and/or Python experience relevant to the production and integration of technical art and related tools in an Unreal Engine pipeline
  • Experience with developing for consoles


Compensation and Benefits Offered

  • $60,000 - $80,000 / year, based on experience and skillset
