We are seeking a mid to senior-level designer to help craft levels for an upcoming game.

You’ll be joining a small, collaborative team where you’ll work closely with another level designer and a lead developer to create compelling content. This 6-month contract position can begin immediately and is full-time remote with the potential to be extended. Our team is distributed across the world so you’ll have the flexibility to set your own schedule but will have to accommodate meetings across time zones. Your primary collaborators will be CEST-based.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with level designer and lead developer to create engaging 2D levels for a touch-based platformer.
  • Design level components for procedurally generated game modes.
  • Ensure logical player progression experience.
  • Solicit playtest feedback, analyse the results and adjust game levels accordingly.
  • Iterate on level designs based on feedback.
  • Provide clear and helpful feedback on other team member’s level designs.

Requirements

  • 3+ years professional (paid) experience in video game level design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design levels for 2D platforming games.
  • Able to design to accommodate a range of player skill levels.
  • Familiarity with Unity, good understanding of prefabs and prefab variants.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work on a deadline.
  • Willing to accommodate CEST hours when necessary.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants who have experience with procedural generation.

Bonus – it’s nice to have, but not required

About Snowman

Snowman is a small studio at the centre of artful experiences. Whether as a developer or creative partner, our goal has always been the same: to create meaningful experiences that you may sit with for a short time, but that sit with you for a long while.

Founded in 2012 with the release of the to-do app Checkmark, we went on to launch Shifts, Circles and Super Squares before collaborating with Harry Nesbitt on Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey. In September 2019, Snowman released Where Cards Fall and Skate City exclusively on Apple Arcade. Skate City became available on PC and console in May 2021, with Where Cards Fall set to arrive on PC and Nintendo Switch soon after.

In May 2021, Snowman introduced Pok Pok, a new studio centred around creative, play-based learning experiences for kids. Their first app, Pok Pok Playroom, is a digital playroom of educational toys that spark creativity and learning through open-ended play.

On the horizon is DISTANT; our collaboration with Slingshot and Satchel.

We're currently hiring a Level Designer and a UI/UX Designer. You can view (and share) all of our openings here.

Our Games

The Alto Collection brings both the critically acclaimed and beloved Alto’s Adventure and Alto’s Odyssey into one experience for the first time. A whole new group of players will finally be able to see what millions of others have discovered as they explore the ivory snows and the endless desert on the big screen in one collection.

Join mountain shepherd Alto and friends as they set out to rescue their escaped llamas and find the adventure of a lifetime. In this collection, you will journey across the beautiful alpine hills of their native wilderness and soar above windswept dunes in a fantastical place far from home. Each procedurally-generated run provides new inspiration and a fresh set of challenges that seamlessly blends our unique landscapes together.

Where Cards Fall is a slice of life puzzle game where you build houses of cards to bring formative memories to life. Create pathways through dreamlike spatial puzzles to navigate the insecurities and emotions of high school and beyond.

Along with helping you solve puzzles, the houses of cards give each scene a distinct identity and sense of place. As you solve them, you’ll gain small glimpses into our characters’ lives, uncovering memories within the houses of cards. While the puzzles gently flow into each other, things don’t always conclude neatly.

DISTANT takes you on a wondrous voyage through pastel dreamscapes, to prevent a calamity from consuming the world you once knew. Along the way, you’ll confront an inescapable past, and learn how much you're willing to sacrifice in your search for solace.
