Job Description:

The Odd Gentlemen are looking for a Lead 3D artist with technical chops for a new stylized game. Our ideal candidate is an accomplished 3D artist with technical chops a thorough understanding of the pipelines necessary for a high-quality console game. As a lead, you will help develop the artistic vision of the project, set 3D standards,  manage a talented art team, oversee the production of art assets, and supervise their implementation in the engine.

Ideal candidates will be able to guide and model characters as well as environments and understand how to bring art to life through world-building and visual storytelling. We are looking for someone who is equally capable of delegating tasks as well as tackling it themselves.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Art Director and Concept Artists to breakdown fantastical concept images into 3D assets and libraries that can be modeled by the team
  • Well versed with Unity and familiar the HDRP pipeline
  • Knowledge of best practices for 3D optimization
  • Knowledge of Unity’s lighting system and post effect stack
  • Manage the 3D Art Team
  • Communicate artistic direction and visual targets to the team
  • Review and approve art assets to ensure they meet visual style and concepts
  • Provide clear, consistent, and constructive feedback
  • Generate and monitor time estimates
  • Supervise the look within the engine, including lighting and layout
  • Sculpt memorable 3D characters and hero Environment assets
  • Work with the Engineers to ensure assets meet performance budgets
  • Advocate for the needs and concerns of the art team

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in the video game industry as a modeler
  • Shipped at least one console title
  • Strong knowledge base in Unity
  • Experienced with Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer
  • Thorough understanding of the technical limitations and optimization of game art assets for various platforms
  • Motivated to self-manage and actively seek answers, conduct research and explore creative solutions
  • Proven management experience balancing the day-to-day tasks of a team with its longer-term growth and development
  • A passion for story-driven games and fantastical worlds and characters
