Treehouse Games is looking for amazing people who are excited to create games that are the best way for friends to spend time together.

As the Lead Systems Designer, you will take charge of designing and implementing core game systems like quests, progression, economy, crafting, and social systems in our semi-open world co-op survival crafting RPG. As one of the most senior designers on the team in a critical “glue” space, you will be expected to work proactively and collaboratively with the entire design team, knitting together core gameplay, systems, and metagame systems into a compelling flow that keeps players motivated and delighted to progress together.

Our game is a hybrid of multiple genres, and your work will touch every feature in it; for this role it’s essential that you have a strong drive to collaborate creatively with others, substantial genre literacy in RPG’s, MMO’s, and survival crafting games, and a passion for innovation in systems design.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with creative director and game director to identify the right direction for core game systems and necessary design staffing to achieve that
  • Design, implement, and balance diverse gameplay systems for a semi-open world survival crafting game (including economy, crafting, progression, quests, and more)
  • Collaborate with other designers to effectively integrate their feature design work with core game systems
  • Write clear, concise goals-driven documentation for owned content and features.
  • Work in Unreal Engine to implement systems and content to support owned features.
  • Communicate ideas often and broadly, soliciting cross-discipline feedback and then thoroughly documenting both implemented work and best practices
  • Mentor or manage an associate-level systems designer

Requirements

  • 5+ years as a systems (or similar) designer
  • Advanced paper design, documentation and implementation skills
  • Experience with some form of gameplay scripting (LUA, Blueprint, C#, or equivalent)
  • Experience working on systems design end-to-end, from concept through implementation of a prototype to balancing the system in a live environment
  • Strong economy mindset is a must: have experience balancing large economies, long term progression, and how to leverage these in a cooperative gameplay experience

Who You Are

  • Proficient at working in a fully remote team environment. We balance synchronous and asynchronous communication across multiple time zones to get things done.
  • Proactive at identifying areas of concern and independently acting on it. We're a small team and the impact of each person is huge!
  • Considerate with feedback in both directions. We work to always receive feedback gracefully, deliver feedback constructively, and have discussions and disagreements respectfully.
  • Team-minded, a cross-discipline thinker that is mindful of the downstream impact of their work.
  • Persistent at maintaining a healthy perspective about the larger game we’re building together. We do the extra work to value every team member's point of view and we’re looking for fresh perspectives, especially of those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excited to work on cooperative games with a focus on fun experiences with friends.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation
  • Early Company Equity
  • Medical Travel Support
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • 401k plan with 3% company matching
  • Flexible work schedule
  • Unlimited Paid Time Off
  • Extended Winter Break
  • Remote Work
