Weathered Sweater is a new Black-owned interactive media and art studio located in Winooski, Vermont. We are looking for a half to full-time Unity/Web Developer for a remote contract position aimed at exploring new studio relationships and positions. 

We are looking for a developer that is used to working with a team to consistently deliver milestones on time and on schedule. Any applicant should have extensive experience working in Unity and at least some experience with web development outside of Unity. Experience in other engines and environments is a plus. 

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, experienced, passionate about the game development industry, and driven enough that they’ve already created and released several projects (commercial or otherwise).

Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for working on a team and making products that may be internal Weathered Sweater projects or projects for clients.

  • Work on a mix of internal “indie” projects and external, client-based projects
  • Design and implement levels and features with or alongside a team
  • Design and implement tools to help make development easier for teammates
  • Create placeholder assets for prototyping systems or implementing content
  • Writing and maintaining design and programming documentation

Requirements and Experience: 

  • Proficient with Unity (you can confidently design and build a stable game on your own using Unity C#)
  • Experience with HTML5 web/game development (Node.js, React, Phaser, ect)
  • Good sense of aesthetic (you have proven that you can make a game look and feel good)
  • Strong documentation skills and habits (you can write a design document and keep it up-to-date, and can also create UI/UX flow charts and layouts)
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of Git and Source Control

Nice to Haves:

  • Strong narrative and storytelling skills
  • Ability to make placeholder assets and animations
  • Passionate about making things of many types, genres, and styles
  • Has hobbies that aren’t just gaming-related (you can draw from experiences that aren’t just other games)

Important Information

  • Duration: ~6 months
  • Compensation: Negotiable and based on experience (target range $20-30 USD/hour)
  • Location: Though remote, we are mainly looking at candidates that can work in Eastern Time (ET) given the nature of the role.
