We’re looking for a Game Systems Programmer to join a fully-funded indie game built for cutting-edge game systems and technologies. You’ll be responsible for building out the core technologies for bringing a tense, action-filled, systemic adventure to a ship quality, high-performance, bug-free release.

Our team is very collaborative and iterative, but you will own many runtime systems as well as designer-friendly tools used to build the game. Your influence will be felt at all levels of development, and creative leadership will rely on your ability to assess and maintain our systems at Well Told Entertainment.

Job Description

  • Build and maintain immersive VR and traditional software systems and features in Unreal engine.
  • Collaborate and work cohesively with members of different disciplines (Design, Production, Animation, QA, etc.)
  • Able to take initiative and pay close attention to detail
  • Work closely with a gameplay programmer to implement backend and supporting systems.
  • Assist with builds and tools that support other build processes.

Individuals with the following background

  • 1-3+ years of professional experience and worked on at least one game that has shipped either traditional or VR.
  • Experience designing and developing game editor tools and methods.
  • Ability to architect maintainable and extensible code and documentation.
  • Advanced Unreal debugging and optimization experience.
  • Outstanding C++ skills with ability to write performant code.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to deliver in accordance with prescribed deadlines, on time and of high quality.
  • Experience working with source control systems such as Perforce in a multi-developer team environment.
  • Experience architecting, modifying and writing platform and engine-level code in Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with behavior trees, finite state machines, and other AI management patterns.
  • Experience working on physics-based game projects.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with relational databases and data serialization JSON/XML for dynamically storing and updating runtime game data.
  • Experience with any graphical programming in Unreal Engine, OpenGL, DirectX, etc.
  • A STRONG interest in new and emerging technologies.
  • Experience with procedural level generation.
  • Familiarity with Jenkins and CI processes.

*Currently, our studio is operating WFH remote – but full-time positions are preferred to be local to our studio in Orange County in the future. But we are open and will review remote candidates.
