Hello! I’m William, the designer of Manifold Garden and the Creative Director of William Chyr Studio (WCS). We are a small indie game studio based in Chicago, with a remote team located around the world. We are passionate about making highly polished experiences with innovative gameplay and unique visual styles.

We are currently working on an unannounced original game as a follow-up to Manifold Garden and are looking for a Producer to join us. In this role, your primary goal is to support other team members. You will establish the production roadmap of a project, run sprint meetings, and track the progress of tasks across disciplines. A typical day will involve checking in with designers and engineers, reviewing the latest build of the game, and managing the task board.

The position will be full-time and remote, but you must be eligible to work in the USA. Occasionally, you will need to travel to Chicago to collaborate in person or work with dev kits. This will likely be once every 3 to 6 months, for 3 to 5 days at a time. We are willing to be flexible and accommodating with your schedule and needs, and we will cover all travel expenses as well as provide a per diem.

We will provide all necessary equipment for you to perform work remotely, including a PC, MacBook, Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, and Meta Quest 2.

Background

Manifold Garden’s development began in 2012. It was inspired by the works of M.C. Escher, physics, and architecture. While the game started as a solo project, it was a team that took it through the finish line. The core team came together starting in 2017, and the final product is a collaborative effort with all of our contributions.

Manifold Garden was released in October 2019 to critical acclaim. It was nominated for a BAFTA and Game Developers Choice Award and has since been exhibited at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Design Museum in London. The game is available on Apple Arcade, Steam, Epic Games Store, Itchio, PS4/PS5, Xbox One /Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. We partnered with iam8bit to release a physical edition for PS5 and Switch, as well as a beautiful edition of the soundtrack on vinyl that won the Best Vinyl Gatefold Award.

What are we working on?

Since Manifold Garden was released, we’ve been working on several new projects. We are excited about the creative potential of new technologies. Our focus is to create innovative games that push the boundaries of gameplay and reimagine space, physics, and architecture. One of the projects we are working on is an original VR title that explores impossible geometry.

What are we looking for in a Producer?

Our ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who is organized and excited about supporting others on the team.

The Producer is responsible for organizing the production timeline of a project. You must be able to manage tasks efficiently and know how to prioritize. You should be detail-oriented and meticulous.

The Producer must have strong communication skills, both written and oral. As a producer, you will work with many different team members - artists, designers, engineers, and directors. It’s very important that you can communicate in a clear and concise manner. You will also, at times, be representing the studio in correspondence with publishers, platform holders, and external contractors.

The Producer must be flexible. Despite our best efforts, production plans can sometimes go wrong - a feature takes longer to implement, a bug turns out to be more complicated to fix, or a platform introduces a new requirement. You must be able to think quickly on your feet and adapt to changing circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Creative Director and the Technical Director to establish a project roadmap based on milestones.
  • Work with engineers, designers, and artists to ensure project expectations and  requirements are met.
  • Regularly maintain and update project roadmaps, timelines, backlogs, and documentation.
  • Lead Sprint Kickoff and Sprint Review meetings
  • Maintain the project Scrum board
  • Manage milestone schedule and provide ongoing reports and feedback on deliverables
  • Coordinate the workflow for the team's development process from ideation through implementation
  • Maintain excellent communication with internal teams and external partners (including publishers and platform holders), ensuring all relevant parties are updated and informed regarding project changes, updates, concerns, and progress
  • Document and improve production processes and collaborate in problem-solving across all departments
  • Oversee the localization process
  • Oversee playtesting sessions and organize user feedback for the design team
  • Keep the team up-to-date with relevant industry information, including market shifts and player expectations.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Passion for organization
  • Worked on at least one published game in a professional capacity
  • Strong knowledge of agile project management and related software
  • Strong knowledge of the game production life-cycle
  • Fluent in English
  • Excited about supporting others to do their best work

Skills and Experience that would be beneficial but not required:

  • Experience in the production of AR, VR, or MR projects
  • Strong understanding of the video game industry and market
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid synchronous and asynchronous work style
  • Familiarity with Notion
  • Living in or near Chicago is a plus but not necessary
  • A strong interest in puzzle games

Flexible Hours

We value flexibility and independence. Flexibility means each team member can decide what is the best way for them to work, while staying open-minded to input. Independence means being self-motivated, having the ability to run with 75% of a task, and having the confidence to know when and how to ask for guidance and offer ideas.

We are primarily a remote work environment, with team members and collaborators working in multiple cities and various time zones. We use a synchronous/ asynchronous model to ensure we can have real-time meetings as a group, as well as time for each of us to do deep work according to our own schedule. Our synchronous hours are Monday to Friday, 10 am - 2 pm US Central Time. During these hours, you’re expected to be available and responsive. Outside of these 4 hours, you can manage your time however you want.

Location

  • Candidates should be U.S.-based and have the willingness to travel domestically on occasion. Travel will be once every 3 to 6 months for 3 to 5 days at a time to Chicago. We are willing to be flexible with your travel needs and will cover all travel and lodging expenses, as well as provide a per diem.

Benefits

  • 100% employer-paid Health Insurance and 50% coverage for up to three dependents
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) Matching
  • Paid time off for holidays, vacation, and personal matters
  • Options for family leave
  • Stipends for home office, games, and wellness
  • Remote work, with occasional in-person requirements
  • Flexible work schedule (Be available Monday to Friday 10 am - 2 pm CT, all other time is for you to manage)
