Hey. We’re Damage City Games.
We’re an irreverent indie game studio founded by artist/animator Sheldon Vella and music producer Ryan von Minus. Our current project, BIZNUTS, is a darkly comedic idle/strategy sim set in a warped 90s corporate hampster cage, populated entirely by hamster-headed businesspeople who grind, sell, consume each other, and ascend the greasy ladder to the moon (literally).
It’s weird. It’s funny. It’s heavy on systems, data, and vibes.
We’re looking for a contract Unreal programmer to help bring this fever dream to the finish line. You’d be stepping into the shoes of our beloved programmer, who unfortunately has to part ways with us due to some real-life emergency stuff. We're doing what we can to support them through it, but we need someone who can help us keep things moving…ASAP; so you’ll be jumping into a live build in mid-production; we’ll need you to be confident, curious, and comfortable understanding someone else’s blueprint logic and making things work from there.
☠️ Who You Are (Hopefully)
- Experienced in Unreal (Blueprint required, C++ is a plus)
- Skilled in systems programming: spawning logic, tick-based progression, UI behavior, data-driven gameplay
- Familiar with idle/incremental games, strategy sims, or management loops
- Comfortable working directly with CSV-driven variable systems
- Has shipped games before (this ain’t your first rodeo)
- Comfortable jumping into the middle of a project without needing hand-holding or a full rewrite
- Communicates clearly over Discord, async tools, and shared docs
- Happy to get the job done without needing to hold hands or hold court
🩸 What You’ll Do
- Implement and refine gameplay systems based on design docs, spreadsheets, and team feedback
- Build and connect spawning, timing, upgrade, and interaction systems
- Collaborate with a small, fast-moving creative team to make sure everything’s both functional and absurd
- Identify and fix issues without blowing up the rest of the build
🕳️ Bonus If You...
- Have worked on idle or sim games (or enjoy playing them)
- Have experience with Unreal optimization or “lightweight” implementation practices
- Like dark humor, vaporwave, crotch rock, and games that shouldn’t exist
- Know when to say, “Let’s not build that yet.”
