We’re reworking an existing PC/Steam indie game for a new deluxe version. The game is a wacky, high-energy turn-based multiplayer game designed for exciting, competitive, and funny moments with friends, stylized a bit like games from the Gamecube, Dreamcast, and PS2 era.
We’re looking for an experienced C++ programmer with Unreal Engine 5 netcode and lobby development experience to manage a focused multiplayer systems overhaul. This is a contract role for a specific project and scope of work, estimated to take 2-3 months, but given the right candidate and scope, there’s a possibility of further collaboration beyond the initial engagement.
Task
Our game’s peer-to-peer multiplayer setup is currently built entirely in Blueprints, with players connecting and inviting to games through Steam invites using the Steam Overlay. We want to build a more integrated system with a more natural flow that makes it fast and easy to join friends and get into the game using an in-game lobby and friend invite/join system.
The existing setup works, but our planned feature set exceeds the potential of the existing implementation, so we need an expert to rebuild our lobby system and improve our netcode.
