Gen Eight Games is an independent, Indigenous-run game studio based in Tkaronto, Canada. We were founded in 2024 to develop Where Nations Gather, a powwow management and rhythm game. Thanks to recently secured funding, we are focused on building our first playable demo. This is where you come in. We are looking for passionate, dedicated people who are excited to build a game that is just as unique as they are.
We are a team that holds each other to a high standard while fostering a respectful and collaborative environment. We believe that we all benefit from the unique perspectives and skills of a diverse team, and that we become stronger developers when we can learn from one another. This is why we are looking for a Technical Artist who can fill knowledge gaps in lighting & shading, while helping to improve the visual fidelity of our project to make it look its best.
About the role
As a Technical Artist Mentor, you will work closely with the Technical Director and art team in a fully remote environment to strengthen the team’s technical art capabilities and help establish a strong visual foundation for our project.
Your role will be to provide mentorship, technical guidance, and hands-on instruction. The technical director has experience with Unity's scriptable render features, materials, and shaders, so your role is help foster a deeper understanding of Unity’s lighting and rendering workflows including techniques for day/night cycles, and building procedural terrain and foliage systems.
This a part-time contract position for entry level programmers. If you have prior experience as a teacher (or TA) and have a hustle on this side, this position may be for you. We are looking for someone who can build solutions and is willing to impart their wisdom.
Due to the nature of our funding, we can only accept candidates who are legally eligible to work and and currently resides in Canada. Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions.
