Mysteria Studio is seeking an experienced Cinematic Designer for a freelance position to bring the story of our PC Action RPG project to life through in-game cinematics.
You’ll create the cutscenes that play out in real time within our game world, for which your storytelling, camera, and technical Unreal Engine skills are of great importance.
We offer a fully remote work arrangement with flexible working hours.
Responsibilities:
- Creating in-game cutscenes in Unreal Engine 5 with Sequencer, from first blockout to final polish;
- Staging characters, composing shots, and directing camera work that serves the story and pacing of each scene;
- Setting up cinematic lighting that enhances the mood of each scene while staying consistent with the surrounding in-game lighting;
- Modifying existing level design and art to create locations that are suitable for cutscenes, in coordination with our Level Design and Art team;
- Blueprints scripting, including triggers, to make the cutscenes work in-game;
- Collaborating with the Game Director and our writers to turn scripts and story beats into shot plans;
- Assembling scenes from our existing character animations and assets, and flagging additional animation needs to the team;
- Testing cutscenes in-game, fixing issues, and keeping them performant;
- Giving input on the scope and scheduling of the cinematic work;
Requirements:
- Experience working on at least one commercially shipped game as a cinematic designer, cinematic artist, or in a similar role;
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in cinematic roles within the video game industry;
- A portfolio that shows in-game / real-time cutscenes, not only pre-rendered or post-production work;
- Expert in Unreal Engine 4 or 5 Sequencer, including cameras, character animation tracks, and cinematic lighting;
- Excellent visual storytelling skills and a strong eye for cinematography: shot composition, framing, camera movement, editing, and pacing;
- Solid working knowledge of Unreal Engine Blueprints for triggering cutscene related events;
- Comfortable adjusting levels in Unreal Engine (layout, set dressing, lighting) to frame a scene well;
- Ability to work in a self-organized manner within a team, while being respectful and an attentive listener;
- Comfortable working in a 100% remote team;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Plus: Experience with dialogue-heavy scenes in story-driven RPGs;
- Plus: Working knowledge of Control Rig, or animation editing for small fixes and adjustments;
