We are developing a cozy idle game based around collecting magical creatures!

Position Details:

  • Title: Game Designer
  • Location: This is a freelance, remote position. (Preferably within the United States). We operate in Pacific Standard Time.
  • Employment type: Fixed-Price Contract
  • Compensation: We are initially seeking a designer for a fixed-price contract with a budget of $4,000-$5,000 based on experience. This initial scope is focused on foundational systems design and a first-pass balance.

Following a period of development, there is a strong intent to bring the same designer back for a follow-up contract for more balancing and polish.

We are Moonpath Games, a small team of seasoned developers working on Omee Life! Omee Life is a cozy game that combines idle and virtual pet gameplay all set in a magical world!

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Game Designer specializing in systems and economy.

You will be responsible for designing and balancing the core idle mechanics, progression systems, and numerical tuning that make an idle game truly addictive. Your work will directly shape the game's pacing, player retention, and overall feel.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, document, and prototype core idle game systems (e.g., generators, upgrades, prestige loops, offline progress).
  • Create and maintain complex balancing spreadsheets for all economic aspects of the game, including currencies, costs, and rewards.
  • Fine-tune player progression to ensure a satisfying and well-paced experience. This is from an engaging early game to a well thought- late-game while avoiding frustrating walls or overly rapid advancement.
  • Collaborate closely with the development team to implement and test your designs.
  • Contribute creative ideas for new features, events, and long-term retention drivers.
  • Design and model systems with future data analysis and live-ops in mind.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Game Designer on an idle game! (Expertise on systems, economy and technical design).
  • You have shipped at least one commercial title.
  • Expert-level proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) and mathematical modeling for game balance.
  • A deep, intuitive understanding of idle game mechanics and player psychology.
  • Ability to independently manage tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as a collaborative mind-set.
  • A genuine love for games!

Bonus Points:

  • Experience balancing and tuning in-game shops and monetization features.
  • Experience working on or playing games in the virtual pet genre (e.g. Tamagotchi, Neopets, Livly Island)
  • Experience with working on or playing games in the cozy genre (e.g. Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing)
  • Familiarity with Unity.

How to Apply:

To apply for this position, please send us an email with an up-to-date resume, portfolio and relevant material.

Please include examples of your systems design work, such as design documents or balancing spreadsheets that you are able to share.
