We're looking for a Freelance 3D Environment Artist.

About the Project:
We are building an ambitious digital card game as a first title to our indie game studio. We need a dedicated 3D Environment Artist for producing 3D models based on concept art, integrate them inside of Unity and take charge in creating levels based on art briefs.
What you’ll be doing:
- Model 3D assets in Blender based on concepts for environment and props
- Optimize, UV unwrap and texture assets so they run well within Unity
- Work with the Art Director to provide solutions for stylization and shading
- Integrate the models inside of Unity and make sure performance constraints are respected while maintaining visual fidelity
- Layout asset kits in Unity to set dress entire levels
- Lighting passes inside Unity to ensure the assets look as good as they can within the art direction
- Propose solutions and workflows for the 3D art integration pipeline
- Establish shading and material guidelines for our indie game and final look in engine
- Creating sample dioramas with the asset kits you made to inform future level art
Requirements:
- 3+ years as an Environment Artist designing, modeling, texturing and integrating assets in engine
- Familiarity with a modern game engine (Unity is preferred but Unreal is fine too)
- You are proficient with using Blender to model and can handle producing UVs, Textures and Materials
- You can produce models and assets using concept art from other artists
- You are based in Canada and can work remotely within Eastern Time. This is a must!
- No AI. You can work without the use of Generative AI to produce the models. You are the real deal. You know how to design, model, texture assets from start to finish using your hard earned artist skills accumulated through practice, reflection and experience. This is an absolute must. We will not consider applicants who use generative AI and/or lie about their methods of production.
Nice to have:
- Highly familiar with Unity and have worked on projects that used it
- You know your way around texturing software like substance painter or designer
- You can work with version control (preference on Git)
- Interest in horror or dark fantasy as a genre whether you read manga, play games, watch horror movies. All of this is a plus!
- Plays board games, digital card games or TCGs. If you enjoy playing card games, we are excited to hear about it!
- You like balkan folklore
