Razorhead is expanding and looking for a talented Lead 2D Pixel Artist to join our team on a new game project. This is an opportunity to play a key role in establishing the project's visual identity and helping define its art direction from the ground up.

You will initially work as the primary artist on the project, collaborating closely with the development team to establish the visual foundation, prototype the game's art style, and build an efficient asset production pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Work as the primary artist during the early stages of the project, helping develop prototypes and establish a strong visual proof of concept.
  • Help define and establish the project's overall 2D pixel art style and visual direction.
  • Work closely with the development team to establish an efficient and scalable art production and delivery pipeline.
  • Create and maintain environment assets, characters, and animations.
  • Take ownership of environment and character animation, ensuring assets are consistent with the established visual direction.
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback and prototype requirements.
  • Establish visual standards and workflows that can later be expanded as the art team grows.

Requirements

  • An excellent portfolio demonstrating a strong range of artistic and technical skills, with a particular focus on 2D pixel art.
  • Previous professional or demonstrable experience creating game-ready art assets.
  • Strong understanding of pixel art fundamentals, composition, color, lighting, silhouettes, and animation.
  • Ability to iterate quickly, respond to feedback, and move efficiently from concept to production-ready assets.
  • Ability to develop minimalist, cinematic pixel art using a deliberately low-resolution visual language, strong silhouettes, limited color palettes, and detailed environmental layering to create an atmospheric 2D world.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the visual development of a project.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with programmers and other members of the development team.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who isn't simply capable of producing individual pixel art assets, but someone who can help shape an entire visual identity.

You should be comfortable working from an early prototype, experimenting with different visual approaches, establishing a consistent art direction, and turning that direction into a practical production workflow.

If you're passionate about pixel art, game development, and building a distinctive visual style from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.

To apply, please send us an email with your portfolio.
