We’re an indie team building a narrative-driven minigame collection about the immigrant experience in America. The project is in active development, and we’re a small, distributed team. This is a part-time contract role. You’ll work remotely, with regular async collaboration and scheduled team syncs.
WHAT WE'RE GOING FOR
We’re making the game as a heartfelt, intimate satire of contemporary American life and culture, seen through the eyes of an immigrant (and, sometimes, an alien).
The community you build should feel like a natural extension of that world, not a marketing layer bolted on top. We already have an early foundation, so this isn't starting from zero. What we want to build from here is a genuinely interactive community: not a channel we broadcast into, but a space with real back-and-forth, where players feel heard, see their feedback shape the game (through playtests and game nights), develop their own inside jokes and rituals, and bring others in organically.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Daily community management: Discord, Steam, Reddit
- Social media management: X, TikTok, Instagram, Xiaohongshu
- Wishlist conversion: design community oriented traffic and conversion tactics around key moments (Steam page launch, release, etc.)
- Player feedback: organize playtests and game nights; collect and organize player feedback
- KOL & community partnerships: build and maintain relationships with streamers and mutual-interest communities (immigration narrative, satirical comedy content creators, etc.)
- Risk management: monitor and manage community/brand risk
Workload is front-loaded on social media in the early phase, with community-specific tasks (Discord/Steam/Reddit, events, playtests) growing as we approach launch and conventions.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- A real player of the genre, not a generalist marketer. Has played, or is deeply familiar with, narrative driven indie titles like Disco Elysium, Slay the Princess, Venba, Fran Bow, Pentiment.
- Genuinely gets satire and absurdist humor. Understands tonal notes like "heartwarming satire" or "America ambivalent" instinctively.
- Fluent in the Steam ecosystem. Comfortable with wishlist conversion mechanics and running a Steam community hub.
- Strongly bilingual and culturally fluent. Writes fast, informal social copy and memes.
- It’s a plus if you have worked in a small team before. Self-sufficient across graphics, short video editing.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Strong English and Mandarin writing and communication skills; Mandarin fluency is essential
- Familiar with the operating logic of at least 2–3 mainstream social/community platforms (Discord, X, TikTok; Xiaohongshu a plus)
- Basic graphic and short video content creation ability (Canva, CapCut, Figma)
- Basic understanding of the indie game industry and Steam platform mechanics
- Prior community management experience with an indie or similarly narrative driven game (volunteer or fan community moderation counts)
- Familiarity with immigration themed content, or good judgment on the boundaries of political satire content
- Bonus: data analysis skills
HOW TO APPLY
Send us:
- Two or three communities you've actually run or grown – include links, plus a line on their size and what your role involved.
- Your expected hourly or monthly rate, and your weekly availability
- Name two communities where you think this game's audience already hangs out — be specific. Then name one community people usually suggest for a game like this that you think would be a poor fit, and why.
