Can you remember the feeling of learning how to build new things as a child? The curiosity that drove you to tinker with your first computer? Do you ever wish your education felt more like a game, transporting you in a world of exploration, discovery and play? We definitely do, and that’s why we founded UMA.

Our mission is to make entertainment experiences that empower players - especially kids - to channel their creativity, cultivate their curiosity, and become learners who can adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Today we are building a live service multiplayer sandbox game where players explore, experiment and create in a highly dynamic voxel world. Think of Minecraft meets Studio Ghibli meets Scratch.

It’s a very exciting time to join UMA, as we are currently preparing to launch our live service game in early access and to scale it to millions of players worldwide. To achieve this ambitious mission, we are looking for an exceptionally talented and thoughtful Junior Game Developer to join our journey.

In this position you will play a key role in the development of our game’s systems and mechanics, from prototyping all the way through to shipping and beyond.

What you’ll be doing

  • Prototype and iterate on gameplay features in our live project
  • Tackle complex systems and gameplay engineering problems
  • Work closely with other engineers to maintain and optimise a maturing codebase
  • Fix bugs and issues reported by internal testers and players
  • Continuously learn and apply new technologies

What we are looking for

  • A self-learner and team player, someone who is curious and always up for a challenge
  • 2+ years of experience making games
  • Deep familiarity with Unity and C# across the production pipeline
  • Experience with Git or similar version control systems in a team environment
  • Great communication skills and willingness to ask for help when needed
  • Understanding of, and interest in, Mathematics

Big Plus

  • Degree in Computer Science, Game Engineering or Game Design
  • Experience developing and shipping indie games or working in high-growth startups
  • Experience building multiplayer games
  • Experience with graphics programming
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Located in the UK or in a similar timezone

What you’ll find

  • Lots of trust in your work and abilities
  • Freedom to think outside the box
  • A seat at the table in shaping the direction of the company and product
  • Open exchanges of opinions and ideas
  • An interdisciplinary, diverse, safe, and modern work environment where we learn, teach and grow every day
