We are an Indie Studio looking to hire a Full Time Concept Artist/Visual Developer. We are in very early stages of development of our first game and need an Artist to work alongside our core developers and Art Lead.
Ideal Skillset:
- Perspective and Drafting: An absolute mastery of 1-, 2-, and 3-point perspective. Designs must look like they can physically exist in three dimensions.
- Anatomy and Figure Drawing: Deep structural knowledge of human and animal anatomy (and how to stylize or exaggerate it realistically).
- Lighting and Value Structure: The ability to use values (shades of light and dark) to establish mood, depth, and focal points before even touching color.
- Color Theory: Understanding how color relationships invoke emotion and simulate real-world atmospheres or cinematic lighting conditions.
- Design Thinking and World Building:
- Visual Storytelling: Infusing history and narrative into a design. For instance, a vehicle shouldn't just look cool; its dents, dirt, and engine layout should tell the user where it has been and how it functions.
- Research & Architecture History: A great artist draws from real life. Knowing the difference between Gothic and Romanesque architecture, or WWII-era vs. modern military tech, makes fictional worlds feel grounded.
- Iteration and Speed: Generating dozens of loose, distinct ideas (often called "thumbnails" or "silhouettes") rapidly so the director can choose a direction.
Additional Details:
- Experience: None required but need a portfolio of previous work/projects.
- Game Details: 1st/3rd Person Shooter, Scifi/Fantasy/Horror
- Pay: TBD after interview.
