- Ensure that the character's design is optimized for performance and compatibility with our game engine, addressing technical constraints such as polygon count and texture resolution.
- Collaborate with animators to ensure that the character's rigging and topology are suitable for animation, making adjustments as needed to facilitate smooth movement and expression.
- Iterate on designs based on feedback from stakeholders, refining and improving the character's appearance and functionality throughout the development process.
- Meet project deadlines and milestones while maintaining a high level of artistic quality and attention to detail.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a 3D Character Artist, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to create captivating and visually striking character designs.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Maya, Blender, or ZBrush, as well as texturing software like Substance Painter or Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of character anatomy, proportion, and facial expressions, with the ability to convey emotion and personality through your designs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling in games.
- Previous experience in the indie game development industry is a plus, but not required.
Afterburner Studios was formed in the summer of 2018 by three veteran game devs who were feeling burned out in more traditional development. Our debut title, Dreamscaper, an action roguelike with a lucid dreaming twist, launched in 2021. Since then it has gone on to reach over 600,000 players with an 89% positive rating on Steam.
Our next project is a larger, more ambitious title in the AA space – a science fantasy 3D action / adventure blending classic elements with new twists. We’re looking to expand our team with motivated individuals that are excited to work in a small, fast-paced indie studio, in order to make a big impact on our next game.

- Fully Remote & Flexible. We’ve been fully remote from the start, with team members across the globe, encouraging flexible work schedules, so we can work how and when we want.
- Small Team, Big Impact. Our small team size encourages multidisciplinary collaboration and rapid iteration. Team members play key roles in how our games shape up.
