ambedo studios is looking for a 3D character artist for our upcoming experimental narrative title, Remaining Grace. This is a remote short term contract, to start as soon as possible, with the possibility of turning into a full-time permanent role on-site in Vancouver, Canada.

Requirements & skills

  • Modelling and texturing of medium-poly naturalistic human characters.
  • Our art style is simplified stylized, but with naturalistic proportions.
  • Ability to model human facial details suitable for subtle facial animations.
  • Proficiency in the entire character pipeline, from modelling to in-game integration in Unity.
  • Comfortable with technical workflows as our art shader renders stylised assets based on a combination of data from multiple UV layers and material properties.

We love indie unicorns that enjoy wearing many hats. If you have other skills within game development, especially within 3D art, please include them in your application. We’d love to be able to use you in more roles as we ramp up production down the line.

Note that while the role is remote, we are currently only considering Canadian candidates.

How to Apply

  • Please send your CV and portfolio with the subject “3D Character Artist”.
  • Please ensure your portfolio prominently features naturalistic human characters with a clear view of facial detail, preferably in non-combat situations.
  • Portfolios that only feature cartoony and/or non-human characters will not be considered.
  • If you happen to be an indie unicorn with experience in other areas of game development (environment art, animation, etc.), feel free to include them in your portfolio so we can get a sense of all the things you do. For this role however, we will be focusing on your character work.
  • In your application, please make sure to include where you are physically based. Applications that omit this will not be considered.
ambedo studios

We are a Vancouver-based indie arthouse studio focused on creating heartfelt interactive narrative experiences across a range of platforms. Our studio is headed up by Quintin Pan, Lead Designer of Dreamfall Chapters, Dustborn, and Draugen.

We seek to push the cultural, artistic, and literary boundaries of our interactive narrative medium. We want to craft experiences that touch hearts and have lasting meaning. We exist to tell intimate stories of people and relationships, not heroes saving the world.

Our studio is based in Vancouver, Canada, on the colonised lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations of the Coast Salish peoples. We hail from a wide range of cultures, ethnicities, and faiths, and are spread across Canada, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Ukraine, UK, and USA.

We bring our immigrant stories, our Indigenous stories, our wrestlings with faith, race, gender, and culture all into the narrative fabric of the experiences we create. We care deeply about telling the untold stories of lived experiences rarely represented on our screens and pages.
