About the Role

We are looking for a creative and versatile mega talented Artist to help define the visual identity of an unannounced Base Defense / Factory game.

Because we are early in development and actively exploring our art style, you will play a foundational role in defining the look and feel of the game: from early look-dev mood boards and structural concepts to establishing the final production pipeline and creating game-ready assets.

If you enjoy hard-surface mechanical design (machinery, defense towers, modular structures) and thrive when given the creative freedom to experiment with different visual directions, we’d love to talk to you.

What We're Looking For

You’re the third vertex of the holy triad of Game Design, Programming and Art. You own your field, and take pride in your creative outputs.

We are not just looking for an artist, we are looking for a creative powerhouse able to guide the visual vision of the game and then implement it.

You understand gameplay, thus creating and polishing art that supports it and not your own ideals.

Responsibilities

Visual Exploration & Style Definition

  • Drive visual style discovery for an early-stage Base Defense / Factory title, iterating across distinct visual directions (e.g., stylized, sci-fi, industrial, low-poly, pixel art, semi-realistic).
  • Conduct look-development iterations, creating mood boards, color scripts, and visual benchmarks.
  • Establish and document visual rules (art bible), asset production pipelines, and style guides to ensure team-wide consistency.

Concept Design

  • Create detailed concepts for hard-surface elements including factory machinery, modular structures, and defensive turrets.
  • Design distinct (space related!) environmental assets
  • Design enemy spacecrafts that support gameplay clarity.
  • Work with the designer to ensure complex factory networks remain readable and functional during dense gameplay moments.

Asset Creation & Integration

  • Produce production ready 2D or 3D assets matching the locked visual style and project requirements.
  • Generate textures, sprites, UI elements, or models optimized for real-time engine performance.
  • Collaborate with technical leads to establish clean handover pipelines and verify asset behavior in the engine.
  • Maintain organized source files, asset libraries, and scalable documentation.

Requirements

Must Have

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating versatility, hard-surface mechanical/industrial design, and end-to-end asset creation (concept to final asset).
  • Proven experience in look-development and visual style exploration in early game pre-production.
  • Deep understanding of visual hierarchy, color theory, contrast, and gameplay readability in complex management, factory, or strategy systems.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard art tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Blender, Maya, Substance 3D, Spine, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, iterative mindset.
  • 5+ years of experience in the game development industry.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience working on factory, base defense, strategy, or simulation titles.
  • Published games on Steam.
  • Hands-on experience importing, setting up, and testing assets inside game engines (Unity, Unreal, or Godot).
  • Experience creating marketing\publishing materials such as key visual assets, promotional art, and storefront imagery.
  • Background in tech art - VFX, rigging, lighting, etc.

Success in This Role

Within your first year, you'll:

  • Successfully guide the project through pre-production art discovery and lock down a distinct, recognizable visual style (we cannot overstate how important this is. This is important. Seriously.)
  • Establish an efficient, documented asset pipeline for future art integrations.
  • Deliver a complete library of production-ready factory, defense, and environment assets for production.
  • Ensure high gameplay readability across complex factory layouts and high-density combat scenes.
