Coincidence is a small (~6 person) cooperative game studio located in Redmond, WA. We all worked at Zachtronics before this, where we made lots of puzzle games (like Opus Magnum) and a few non-puzzle games (like Eliza).
We currently have two artists, both 2D generalists, and are looking for a third to join the team.
ABOUT YOU
The most important thing to understand about our games is that they’re almost entirely UI:

We also tend to include a lot of illustrations in our games, which often include characters:

You should be able to create assets like these from concept to completion. (This is the job.)
Other things that we do, but in smaller amounts, that you might also be good at: animation, graphic design, motion graphics, and tabletop game art. We once even made a stop-motion trailer for one of our games.
You should live somewhere near Redmond, WA so that you can come into our office at least once a week. Most of us are here 4-5 days a week, which is preferred.
ABOUT US
This is not a normal job posting, because Coincidence is not a normal game studio.
The structure of Coincidence is unusual. I will be happy to talk it through with anyone who is interested and seems like a plausible candidate.

Coincidence is a flexible business framework for a small number of people to work on their own or in groups on projects that interest them. We mostly make games. Many of us worked at Zachtronics at one point or another.
While it may appear these works are developed according to a certain plan or schema, they are not. The human brain is wired to infer causal relationships between events that bear similarity to each other whether or not such causes exist. Therefore, we say these works are developed by Coincidence.
U.V.S. Nirmana is an engineering puzzle game about conduits and the energies that flow through them, developed by Coincidence and published by Klei.
Set off on the Unreturning Void Ship Nirmana as it continues a journey of uncountable eons toward the edge of the universe. Stop by distant worlds and ancient civilizations, helping them as part of your pilgrimage with your companions, the Renunciants.
Kaizen: A Factory Story is an open-ended factory puzzle game, developed by Coincidence and published by Astra Logical.
Design production lines to create the iconic products of 1980s Japan. Flip, weld, and cut blocks to build products, with classic features like histograms and new features like rewinding and real-time editing. When you need a break, there's even a pachinko-themed solitaire!
🌊 Hi! Nate from Work With Indies here. I've been super lucky to have been able to work with Coincidence over the last several months on U.V.S. Nirmana. Zach and team are fantastic– and so are their games. I have no doubt that whoever joins will feel the same.
Good luck to all of the candidates. Can't wait to see what you create together!
