Elsewhere is hiring a contract Web / TypeScript Game Developer to work with us on our upcoming live service roguelike game. Our game captures the aesthetic and soul of indie games, the replayability and depth of roguelikes, and the ambition to become a forever game that reaches millions of players.
As our Web / TypeScript Game Developer, you’ll work closely with our Founder & CEO to build a web-based game that extends the narrative and game loop of our core game. You’ll also have an opportunity to participate in game design discussions.
This position is for an ongoing contract, ranging from 20-40 hrs/week depending on business needs.
Your Qualifications:
- Experience building web applications using TypeScript, React, CSS, and other web technologies
- Deep knowledge of CSS and animations
- Eagerness to share rough prototypes and in-progress builds
- Excited to work closely with a small and highly communicative team of game developers
- A love for games in general. You’re well-versed in everything from modern indie and AAA hits to the old school pioneers that inspired them.
Bonus points for:
- Familiarity with Colyseus or experience building multiplayer games in a browser environment via WebSockets
- Experience with the Discord API
- Experience building products using LLMs (eg, Claude, ChatGPT, LLama)
- Strong product design intuition and knowledge of Figma
- Experience working on a small team, ideally in a startup environment
- Experience building games, even as indie or side projects
Location:
- Remote (but bonus points for being located in San Francisco, CA)
