Floaty is looking for a Game Designer to shape how our games play, from core mechanics and levels to progression, economy, and the reasons players come back. You'll design on paper, prototype in Unity, and tune with real data from live games.

Core & Systems Design

  • Design core mechanics, rules, and the systems that connect them
  • Write clear design documents the team can build from
  • Prototype mechanics quickly to test whether an idea is actually fun
  • Break large features into pieces that can ship and be tested

Progression & Economy

  • Design progression, difficulty curves, and long-term goals
  • Design the in-game economy: currencies, rewards, sinks, and pricing
  • Design meta systems that give players a reason to come back
  • Model progression and economy in spreadsheets before it gets built

Levels & Content

  • Design and build levels, stages, and content in Unity
  • Pace difficulty across a single run and across the whole game
  • Create content that teaches mechanics without a wall of tutorials
  • Keep content production realistic for a small team

Balancing & Live Tuning

  • Balance difficulty, rewards, and economy using playtests and data
  • Read retention, funnel, and monetization data and act on it
  • Run A/B tests and turn results into design changes
  • Keep tuning after launch, not only before it

Collaboration & Iteration

  • Work closely with artists, technical artists, and developers to bring designs into the game
  • Run and observe playtests, and separate what players say from what they do
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback and playtesting
  • Stay up to date with mobile games, genres, and market trends

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years designing games, with at least one shipped title or a strong portfolio of playable prototypes
  • Strong understanding of mobile free-to-play design: progression, economy, and retention
  • Comfortable designing both systems and levels
  • Comfortable working hands-on in Unity, not only writing documents
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets and modeling economy and progression
  • Able to read analytics and turn numbers into design decisions
  • Clear written communication
  • Ability to take ownership and iterate quickly
  • Good written English

Nice to have

  • Experience with live operations and content updates
  • Experience in our genres: action, squad builders, auto battlers, survival
  • Basic C# scripting
  • Experience with analytics or A/B testing tools such as Firebase or GameAnalytics
  • A personal portfolio of prototypes, mods, or published games
