We are a small, self-funded international indie studio driven by a clear mission: building immersive, easy-to-navigate social playgrounds in VR. Our team currently consists of three programmers and one 3D artist. We focus on creating modular, physics-driven experiences that bring friends, family, and new communities together with minimal friction.

We are gearing up to launch our first major title, and we are looking for a dedicated programmer to help us sustain, optimize, and expand our live-service infrastructure as we scale.

About the Game: Clayground

Clayground is our ambitious, free-to-play live-service VR multiplayer game launching on Meta Quest at the end of July 2026, with a SteamVR release following later this year. Developed over the last three years, Clayground features an advanced physics-based character controller, optimized multiplayer services, and a robust, unified "activity system" (featuring game modes like Parkour Race, Coin Snatch, and Pet Rescue). The game takes place in a massive claymation park that’s optimized to handle 20+ players per room plus hundreds of interactables. Our one-year roadmap includes regular live events, map expansions, and seamless, loading-screen-free transitions between large-scale themed parks.

Job Description

  • Role: Multiplayer / Back-End Unity Programmer
  • Type: Full-Time, Fully Remote (Flexible Hours)
  • Compensation: Starting at $60,000 USD / year (Negotiable based on experience)
  • Start Date: August 1st, 2026

We are seeking an intermediate-to-veteran Multiplayer and Back-End Programmer to maintain, optimize, and scale our live-service infrastructure. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in an evolving production environment, possesses strong problem-solving ownership, and can collaborate across disciplines when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Live Ops & Infrastructure: Manage and operate dashboards and back-end code for player accounts, in-app purchases (IAPs), currency systems, and reward logic.
  • Architecture & Code Quality: Extend, maintain, and refactor our proprietary C# codebase, focusing on long-term maintainability, modularity, and clean architecture.
  • Multiplayer Systems: Enhance and optimize our network implementation using Photon Fusion 2.1 (Shared Mode).
  • Data & Analytics: Manage and track bug fixes, error tracking platforms, and gameplay analytics pipelines.

Our Tech Stack

  • Engine: Unity 6.0
  • Multiplayer & Voice Chat: Photon Fusion 2.1 (Shared Mode) & Photon Voice 2
  • VR Framework: OpenXR (utilizing Hexabody + Hurricane rig assets)
  • Back-End Services: PlayFab and VoicePatrol
  • Security & Analytics: Anti-Cheat Toolkit, GameAnalytics, Bugsplat
  • Version Control: Unity Version Control (formerly Plastic SCM)

QualificationsRequired Experience

  • Professional Track Record: At least 3+ years of professional game development experience, with hands-on experience shipping 2 or more multiplayer titles.
  • Unity & C# Expertise: Deep proficiency in C# and advanced Unity engine workflows.
  • Backend Mastery: Direct, production-level experience implementing and managing PlayFab back-end services (CloudScript, player data, virtual currencies).
  • VR Familiarity: Prior experience working on VR projects (Meta Quest or SteamVR ecosystems).
  • Communication & Workflow: Strong conversational English proficiency. Must be a confident communicator able to articulate technical decisions and engage in constructive peer-level design reviews in a remote environment.

Preferred Experience (Bonus)

  • Photon Fusion Expertise: Direct experience working specifically with Photon Fusion’s Shared Mode topology.
  • High Concurrency Environments: Proven experience building or maintaining network systems designed to handle large numbers of simultaneous users (tens of thousands of CCU).
  • Live-Service & Live Ops: Familiarity with data structures, security practices, and live-service deployment pipelines.
  • Indie Adaptability: Experience working in small, fast-moving teams where developers wear multiple hats.
  • Optimization Skills: Experience profiling and optimizing memory and CPU performance for standalone VR headsets.

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Sick Leave
  • Note on Insurance: As a growing indie studio, we are currently actively researching and working on finding a viable plan for health, vision, and dental insurance for our team members.

Hiring Process

To apply, please submit your CV, Portfolio, and GitHub link, along with your answers to the following introductory questions:

  • What are your long-term professional career goals?
  • What are you really good at professionally?
  • What are areas you are not as strong in, or simply not interested in doing professionally?
  • Who were your last five bosses, and how will they each rate your performance on 1–10 scale when we talk to them?

Next Steps: Candidates who progress past the initial screening will be invited to a deep-dive interview to go over your technical background and past project experience chronologically. Following that, we will make our final decision.
