Hello!

We are Innersloth, a growing team of 19 remote workers scattered across North America. We released Among Us in 2018 and The Henry Stickmin Collection in 2020, both of which saw huge popularity, so I guess we want to try that again with a new game!

We’re looking for a Unity programmer to help us create and lead a new programming team. We have been working on a new IP game using rotating Among Us programmers and decided it's time to give our next game its own dedicated team! Our game's codebase is still pretty small, but the ability to dive into existing codebases while directing others is very important. In these early stages, our roadmap is light so self-motivation and coordination with our designer and backend team will be crucial.

Innersloth totals 19 full-time people primarily focused on Among Us. You will be one of the first dedicated to our next game and will help us hire the people taking it to release. We especially encourage marginalized groups and people from underrepresented backgrounds, genders, and locations to apply. Diverse voices make Innersloth better, and we strive to continue creating a diverse and welcoming space from the ground up.

Your hard work will directly affect hundreds of millions of players around the world. This might sound intimidating, but it's new for all of us! So don’t worry, it’s also really, really cool. We are a growing, friendly, indie team, and you’ll get to see the direct result of your hard work on a uniquely large scale.

What we're looking for

Experience and self-motivation are extremely important for this position. Whether you’ve been working in AAA, have spent years shipping your own indie games, or have a pile of side projects you’ve worked on over the years, as long as you show an aptitude in both diving into programming tasks and facilitating others, we want to hear from you!

Leadership experience. We're looking for someone who can be the advocate for their team as well as their task manager. Strong communication and time-management skills can come from a lot of places, so you don't need to have been a lead programmer specifically.

The following points outline the experience and skills that we strongly prefer. None of these are strict dealbreakers, but reflect the type of experience we feel would lead to finding the right candidate for this position

  • 5+ years of experience working as a programmer in Unity
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership, manager, or production position
  • Excellent people skills and a kind approach to working with others
  • Excellent knowledge of C#
  • Strong bug hunting and squashing skills
  • Experience with real-time multiplayer games, particularly server-authoritative models
  • Experience creating maintainable systems and architectures
  • Experience and comfort diving into an existing codebase
  • Experience using version control (we use GitHub)

What you'll be doing

  • Planning milestones and roadmapping with our designer
  • Ensuring tasks are prioritized and assigned
  • Advocating for the needs of the programming team
  • Ensuring a safe, no-crunch atmosphere
  • Designing maintainable networked gameplay systems
  • Implementing new gameplay features
  • Working with and potentially reviewing the work of external partners

Among Us VR is a party game of teamwork and betrayal, coming Holiday 2022. Crewmates work together in this virtual world to complete tasks before one or more Impostors can kill everyone aboard. All of the same betrayal and deceit as the original game, but now in your own virtual Skeld.

The Henry Stickmin Collection is a Newgrounds choose-your-own-path classic, reborn and revitalized. This 6-game epic culminates in multiple entirely canon, extremely different endings. Each step of the journey has you choose from options such as a Teleporter or calling in your buddy Charles to help you out. Correct choices will move the story forward, but incorrect choices lead to a fail. If you get to the end on your first try, you’re doing it wrong.
