Makera Games is an independent game company based in Riyadh. We operate four Minecraft networks and three Roblox games. These are live games: we regularly release new content, run events, and use player feedback and data to improve the experience over time

For designers coming from indie or standalone games: our Minecraft networks are custom multiplayer games built within Minecraft. Each has its own rules, progression, economy, competitive systems, and community. Players may spend months in a game, and our work doesn't end when a feature ships. We run seasons and events, watch how people play, and adjust what isn't working. We also offer in-app purchases, which makes thoughtful monetization part of designing the player experience.

We're hiring a game designer to help shape that experience. You'll begin with a focused scope on our Minecraft games, with the opportunity to take on more of our networks as the role grows. At roughly 20 hours per week, you'll have room to own meaningful design work and see how real players respond to it.

What you'll do

  • Design and refine systems such as progression, rewards, economies, competition, and long-term goals.
  • Shape updates and seasonal content for games that already have active players.
  • Work through design problems from the player's perspective: Where do new players get stuck? What makes a goal worth pursuing? When does a reward feel exciting, and when does it disrupt balance?
  • Contribute to purchase and monetization design, considering both player value and the health of the game.
  • Write clear, usable specifications so developers can implement and test your designs.
  • Review player behavior, feedback, and performance data after launch, then improve the systems you've designed.

What we're looking for

  • Game design experience you can demonstrate through shipped work, playable projects, or a strong portfolio.
  • A solid grasp of systems design, balance, progression, and player motivation.
  • The ability to turn a broad goal into a practical design, explain your tradeoffs, and improve it through iteration.
  • Someone who enjoys learning a game and its community before deciding what it needs.

You do not need to have worked on Minecraft or Roblox. We know the audiences and design conventions differ, and we don't expect applicants to be experts in both. Experience from indie, standalone, multiplayer, or mobile games can transfer well here if you're willing to play, learn, and adapt.

Experience with LiveOps, game economies, monetization, or in-app purchases is a strong plus. We're especially interested in designers who can explain how a purchase fits into the wider game and how they evaluated its effect on players.

This is a game design role. You'll collaborate closely with developers and producers, but you won't be expected to write production code.

Hours

Approximately 20 per week to start, with potential for the scope and hours to expand across our Minecraft portfolio.
