We are publishing games that weird out your folks.

We started off developing a game called ‘Atomic Owl’, released it, and realized we want to help other game developers using our unique publishing strategies. Then, we published ‘The Dark Queen of Mortholme’, Mr. Sleepy Man, and Stories of Somnia, and have been on a bit of a hot streak with many more games to come.

With that being said..!

We’re looking for a Community Growth Manager who can help us build genuine connections between our players and bring tried and true ideas to the table. It’s early days for us as a developer/publisher, but we’re building something scrappy, hungry, and monstrous! And of course, we’d love for you to be part of the ride.

What You’ve Done

  • You’ve worked in some aspect of the video game industry before.
  • Helped grow and scale Discord communities in the video game industry.
  • Launched strategies that engaged people and got them talking.
  • Organized unique, interesting events that energize gamers.
  • Set up Discord bots, kept the good ones, and threw out the rubbish ones.
  • Banned users on Discord at 4 AM. You know what I’m talking about.
  • You’ve played a video game or two, or three! Preferably, you know a bit about the games we’ve made and published.

What You’ll Do

  • At the heart of it, you’ll spend time with our community. You’ll learn who they are, what makes them tick, and what their favorite Christmas movies are. Stuff like that.
  • Come with a fresh batch of ideas to help grow our community. Tournaments, giveaways, whatever!
  • You will work closely with leadership on community strategy across not only Monster Theater’s Discord, but also the games that we are publishing.
  • Bring the Monster Theater voice to life on our Discord.
  • Communicate with our streamers and content creators with whatever they may need.
  • Help plan, schedule, and think of unique events and activations that celebrate our games, developers, and community.
  • Engage with fans and content creators in an authentic way.
  • Track performance and report back. What’s resonating, what’s not, and how we can improve.

What We’re Looking For

  • Competency, creativity, and an interest in growing with our studio.
  • Someone with an active foundation of knowledge in the language of video games on the internet. You understand the lingo. You know what happened with Highguard, you know how to make a sticker or two on Discord, and you’re just a competent, hopelessly online person (and that’s chill with you!)
  • No corporate voice. Be weird, funny, yourself. Be a real person.
  • You don’t need a Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s to work with us.
  • Quite honestly, we are looking for someone who can be with the brand long-term, someone who loves indie games at their core.
  • …and someone who knows a thing or two about video games of the early 2000s and now. Someone who has played Final Fantasy X on PS2, but also loves indie games like Pseudoregalia and Thomas Was Alone.
  • Bonus points if you can help our social lead with content, but you don’t have to. Totally optional! We’d rather you focus on community, but feel free to jump in wherever you like.

Additional Details

  • Location: Remote
  • Type: Part-time, 10 hours a week / Contract (with potential to grow)
  • Pay: $18.00/hr

Why Join Monster Theater?

  • We’re developers ourselves. We treat every game we touch with respect, care, and effort, as if it were our own.
  • We’re growing rapidly, and are publishing multiple games, and building a fun, weird, esoteric culture that is going places. Spooky places.
  • We work with indie devs who have raw, untapped potential, and we want you to help us make their art impossible to ignore.
  • Our ethos is simple: ensuring outsider art gets its audience. It’s about video games.
  • You love indie games. You play indie games. You understand indie games.

How to Apply

Firstly, we’re not going to ask for free work. We just want to see where you’ve worked, what you’ve done, and then have a chat.

Here’s how this goes down.

  • First, you check out our website and see if we’re a fit:
  • Second, if we pass the test, YOU email US!
  • In the email, attach your resume, portfolio (if applicable), and communities that you’ve directly had a hand in, what you’ve done, and what ideas you might have for scaling an indie game community. (We want to see what you can do!) I look over your stuff, and I send you an email.
  • You and I have a coffee, you join Monster Theater, and your parents have never been prouder. I ask you which Resident Evil is your favorite. You say Resident Evil 2. While I respect your choice, I subconsciously twitch, knowing in my heart of hearts that Resident Evil 4 is actually the universal favorite. You eventually sign the work contract, and I leave you to your work. You crush it. But then, the annual Holiday party happens. I appear as the merchant from Resident Evil 4, full costume, full cosplay. It’s sick. Yes, it is a slight nod to the question I asked you during the interview. You know it, I know it. We all have a laugh when I ask, ‘What’re you buyin?’ and I give away free copies of Succession: Season Four on Blu-ray to the entire team.

Ta ta, for now!

You are Hidalgo Bladewing, a bird with a beef. Hack, slash, platform, and soar through a beautifully chaotic pixel-art neonscape in your quest to save your feathered friends. Structured roguelite elements, transforming weapons, and fowl Ninja action await in Atomic Owl (Monster Theater).

Mr. Sleepy Man (Devin Santi) is up way past his bedtime and out of control! Make a mess of everything you find and turn Bedtime Town against you! This sandbox adventure is filled with comical hijinks, outrageous characters, and platforming action!

You are the final boss, The Dark Queen of Mortholme, (Mosu) unrivaled in power. A hero invades and is easily crushed. Yet, they keep returning. A short-form indie game about an unusual bond, perspectives, and the beauty of change.
