Our focus is on narrative games with excellent gameplay. Storytelling, comedy, poignance, comedy a second time—together we will make the world laugh, cry, and rethink their lives, all while enjoying the heck out of a truly fun game. The Game: 

Our first title is Ledgerbound, a hilarious, narrative-driven tactical RPG filled with your favorite epic fantasy activities: battling evil enemies, filling out paperwork, and rescuing your company from financial ruin. We aim to blend the character depth of Baldur’s Gate 3, the strategic complexity of Fire Emblem, and the laugh-out-loud comedy of Helldivers 2. Much like Helldivers 2, the game will tackle deep issues while still delivering laughs.

You: 

A 2D Stylized VFX Artist!

Our game follows a consistent 2D line art style. All of our current art uses stylized inked line work like that found in Hades or Mike Mignola’s art. We are working with a highly fantasized world so we want someone who can bring a creative and unique approach.

Your work will primarily involve designing and integrating stylized 2D VFX that bring life, impact, and atmosphere to our ink-lined fantasy world. As a small startup, we’re looking for someone who’s excited to work with our current artists and help shape the look and feel of our game!

While we don’t have a ton of VFX to finish before the launch of Ledgerbound, we’re looking for someone that we can eventually work with long term or hire full time as we continue to build the studio. 

Responsibilities: 

• Create stylized, hand-crafted 2D VFX
• Design effects for atmosphere, magic, and environments
• Implement and optimize particle and shader effects
• Iterate on feedback to achieve clear, expressive visuals
• Collaborate with the direction and art team to maintain consistency with our game’s art direction
• Bring your unique vision and experience to the studio, helping craft our creative vision, production pipelines, and studio culture

Need to Have:

• Experience creating 2D VFX for games
• Strong understanding of stylized visual design and animation principles
• Proficiency in Unity, specifically with the Particle System, Shader Graph, and Prefabs
• Ability to implement, optimize, and troubleshoot effects in Unity
• A keen understanding of the balance between quality and speed
• Skill in providing accurate estimates for content creation
• Ability to work within a set style to create a cohesive artistic vision
• A strong desire to collaborate and see a project to completion
• Mastery of the English language
• A love of making games! A collaborative mindset! Kindness, empathy, and all the other things that generally make for coworkers you end up loving to spend time with

Nice to Have:

• Previously shipped titles
• A love of secondary-world fantasies
• A love of Tactical RPGS and Narrative Games

Compensation: 

• Compensation depends on seniority/level of applicant 
• Profit share in game, salary, or a combination of both
• Likely part time, number of weekly hours negotiable
